[00:00:18] What's up everyone and welcome to episode 75 of the Promptly Written Podcast, where every month we take a writing prompt provided by you, write stories based on it, and break them down for you. My name is Matt Sugerik and with me as always, Ian Lewis. What's up Ian?
[00:00:31] Hey, what's up Matt?
[00:00:32] Not much, not much man. I think I just want to start today by like addressing the elephant in the room. Like I know we're super late and as per usual it is all my fault. Like I got really overwhelmed with like grading and shit and like I just didn't have the time and I think I told you in a text it's like I feel awful but it's like I have to give priority to the things that like give me a paycheck.
[00:01:00] Sure, sure.
[00:01:01] So I feel terrible. We're getting this out and while we're just talking about it because we're so late with the episode this month we're kind of adjusting our release schedule for the rest of the year and if you guys are members of the Facebook group you saw that Ian left a message in there. Thanks for doing that by the way.
[00:01:19] And he said that we're hoping to get back on track in January which is still the case.
[00:01:26] So this episode you should be listening to well I mean we'll end up releasing it the weekend over Thanksgiving so it just depends on how much time I have to get the edit done over the holiday.
[00:01:38] So at the very latest you're listening to this on December 2nd.
[00:01:42] So because this one's so late I think what we're going to try to do is in the holiday spirit release episode the next episode which is 76 on Christmas Day.
[00:01:54] And then you know I was going to talk to you before the episode but the listeners will get a little live banter here.
[00:02:00] For the January episode I am I don't know what your work schedules like for the end of the year but I took the last two weeks of the year off.
[00:02:10] Yeah so did I.
[00:02:11] So I actually don't come back into the office until January 6th and as you know if you've listened for a while I record in my office.
[00:02:19] So it would be my preference not to have to come into the office while I'm on vacation to record.
[00:02:24] Sure.
[00:02:24] So I was thinking maybe we record the week of the 6th and then release it the 13th and then in February we'll get back to the first Monday of the month.
[00:02:34] Does that sound alright?
[00:02:35] That works.
[00:02:37] Okay cool.
[00:02:37] And that'll give us a little bit of time in between the recording at the end of the year because we're going to be recording mid-December.
[00:02:45] So then you'll get the January episode on the 13th and then we will resume the first Monday of the month as per usual.
[00:02:54] Alright now that that's out of the way what's been going on with you?
[00:02:57] I think we had a book release since the last time that we spoke.
[00:03:01] Yeah that's true.
[00:03:02] I released the third book in the Reeve series.
[00:03:06] It's called Riders of the Black Cowl.
[00:03:10] Fantastic.
[00:03:10] How's that going so far?
[00:03:12] I mean it's out into the ether.
[00:03:15] I mean it's about what I can say.
[00:03:18] It is next up on my reading list.
[00:03:22] Oh nice.
[00:03:23] We will talk about this.
[00:03:25] You know what?
[00:03:26] We'll just talk about it as we do our book club later.
[00:03:30] But yes it's going to be up next for me.
[00:03:32] And I'm looking really forward to it.
[00:03:34] And remind me this is the series where you do put the little like the catch up at the beginning.
[00:03:40] Yeah correct.
[00:03:40] Kind of like a summary.
[00:03:42] Okay perfect.
[00:03:43] Well I think we have a pretty packed episode today.
[00:03:45] So I think we should just get right into it if that's okay with you.
[00:03:49] Yeah let it rip.
[00:03:50] And the first thing I want to do is make a quick stop in to watch corner.
[00:03:58] So you know we all know that Ian loves his timepieces.
[00:04:04] I have been an Apple Watch wearer since I mean my first Apple Watch was the series zero which was kind of their like beta test.
[00:04:12] So I've been like Apple Watch since like day one.
[00:04:15] And over the past year or so I just have been kind of falling out of love with it.
[00:04:20] If that makes sense.
[00:04:21] Like it's definitely convenient in certain aspects.
[00:04:24] Like for example my the company I work for like we get cash back based on like activity levels or whatever and like little challenges.
[00:04:33] So the Apple Watch would keep track of my steps and upload it automatically.
[00:04:38] And you know I would get find like actual cash back for that.
[00:04:43] Now I have to do that manually which kind of which kind of sucks.
[00:04:47] But you know I always felt like I'm a photographer by trade.
[00:04:51] So I always felt like when I would get a message my wrist would vibrate and I would immediately go to my watch.
[00:04:58] Like no matter what I was doing.
[00:04:59] If I was shooting an event if I was doing anything I always look at my watch.
[00:05:02] And I always just like I was thinking about it and I'm like this is kind of rude.
[00:05:06] Like if I'm immediately just going to be distracted by my watch.
[00:05:09] And yes I know I could have put it in theater mode or whatever.
[00:05:12] But I just never really thought about it.
[00:05:14] And it was just like it's that was really the biggest thing I used it for was just reading messages.
[00:05:20] And I mean half the time I would even take my phone out of my pocket to look at the time.
[00:05:23] Which is ridiculous if you think about it.
[00:05:26] So about a month and a half ago I found an old fossil watch.
[00:05:30] I took it up to the mall.
[00:05:31] I had a battery put in it and I started wearing that.
[00:05:35] And for the most part I don't miss my Apple Watch at all.
[00:05:40] The biggest I mean like like I said the biggest benefit was reading messages.
[00:05:45] And then the other thing is I had alarms.
[00:05:47] There's an app I use called Do.
[00:05:51] Which is actually a great app if you need like a reminder app that will bug the shit out of you until you do it.
[00:05:58] Because like I would set an alarm to take my pill.
[00:06:01] And if you don't take your pill it's like I think it's like every five or ten minutes it just buzzes again until you check off the task.
[00:06:08] Are you going to miss that?
[00:06:09] That's the only thing I'm missing right now.
[00:06:11] Can you put it on your phone instead?
[00:06:13] I mean it's on my phone but for some reason.
[00:06:16] Like those little notifications like it's easier to ignore a phone I think than it is to ignore your wrist.
[00:06:23] Huh.
[00:06:23] Interesting.
[00:06:24] So like I mean like because even sometimes if I get a text message and like my phone's in my pocket.
[00:06:29] I mean it's kind of the same thing.
[00:06:31] My phone's always on vibrate so it's not like an audible reminder.
[00:06:35] It's not like there's like a special noise telling me that it's time to take my pill.
[00:06:38] It's just a couple of vibrations.
[00:06:41] So if I'm just sitting on the couch at home and I get a text sometimes I don't go to my phone right away or I don't get the notification I'll forget about it.
[00:06:47] But you know most of the watches like if I buy like a digital watch like a G-Shock or something like that.
[00:06:54] I can have little alarms set to go off twice a day.
[00:06:57] You know what I mean?
[00:06:58] Sure.
[00:06:58] That's not the big but that's the thing I'm missing the most right now.
[00:07:03] But what's weird and I can't explain this and I would love to know if I'm going crazy or if anybody else who has gone from an Apple watch back to like an analog watch.
[00:07:12] I get phantom vibrations on my wrist.
[00:07:15] Sure.
[00:07:16] Like sometimes I swear that my wrist is vibrating and like today I actually went and I found another watch that I used to have just because like I didn't want to spend.
[00:07:25] I'm cheap.
[00:07:26] I don't want to spend any money right now.
[00:07:28] Plus it's like Christmas time.
[00:07:30] So you know I should be spending money on other people not on myself.
[00:07:33] Right.
[00:07:34] So like I just I found I came across another watch and this and the thing it's what I'm wearing today is this real cheap like Adidas watch.
[00:07:41] You know it's just a big chunky black analog watch with a white face.
[00:07:45] I mean super cheap.
[00:07:46] I probably I doubt I spent more than like 30 or 40 dollars on this back when I bought it.
[00:07:51] You know what I mean?
[00:07:52] Just like it's a fashion watch if anything.
[00:07:56] But you know my fossil is like a I think it's like a 39 and a half millimeter watch.
[00:08:03] It's silver with a blue face.
[00:08:04] Classic classic kind of fossil deal.
[00:08:08] And I was wearing that for a while and then I put the battery in this big chunky black Adidas one.
[00:08:13] And I want to say that if I had to guess like I don't have anything to measure it here with me.
[00:08:17] But I would say that case on this guy's maybe 45 46 millimeters.
[00:08:21] So it's like a big chunky like G-Shock style kind of thing.
[00:08:25] And I put it on and my son was like oh my god that's so much better.
[00:08:29] And I was like what are you talking about?
[00:08:31] And he was like the other one just doesn't work for you.
[00:08:36] And I was like I've been wearing this watch for like three weeks.
[00:08:39] And he was like yeah.
[00:08:40] He was like I didn't really notice it until now.
[00:08:44] But he was like I don't think silver is your color.
[00:08:48] Which shocked me because I do like a silver watch.
[00:08:51] Like it's just stainless.
[00:08:53] But he's like the black is working but he's like the other one was way too small for your wrist.
[00:08:57] Just way too small.
[00:08:58] And I was like but the other one was like approximately the same size as my Apple watch.
[00:09:02] He was like doesn't really make sense.
[00:09:04] But he's like the other one doesn't work for you.
[00:09:06] So I like getting that kind of honest feedback.
[00:09:09] But so that's where I'm at right now.
[00:09:12] I did put a few links in the show notes.
[00:09:15] Ian you can see them.
[00:09:17] And I'll put them in the show notes for the listeners as well.
[00:09:20] Yeah I pulled them up.
[00:09:21] I'm looking at them.
[00:09:22] But I think that these are the three that are kind of on my list.
[00:09:25] In the order that I'm probably going to end up buying them.
[00:09:29] So where I stand right now is I have a stainless steel fossil with a blue face.
[00:09:34] And I have this other analog Adidas one that's black.
[00:09:39] So the first one is this G-Shock here.
[00:09:42] It's your classic Casio digital watch.
[00:09:47] Just a beefier version of it.
[00:09:49] And this one's solar.
[00:09:50] Yeah that's a pretty standard G-Shock.
[00:09:54] Now solar is pretty cool.
[00:09:56] I like solar a lot.
[00:09:58] Yeah and it's only like they have a cheaper version of this that's like 75 bucks.
[00:10:02] But I like this one a little bit better.
[00:10:04] I like the red accent on the face there.
[00:10:08] And I like the fact that it's solar and I don't have to worry about batteries.
[00:10:12] So the $75 one that's not solar?
[00:10:14] No I think it's just a battery.
[00:10:17] Yeah solar is very convenient.
[00:10:19] So I dig that.
[00:10:21] And I'm going to do this quick so we can move through watch corners.
[00:10:23] We can get to more.
[00:10:24] The second one is this Timex Marlin chronograph thing.
[00:10:29] I'm still unsure about the color.
[00:10:31] So the one that I linked to is the one I'm leaning towards is the black two-tone.
[00:10:37] But if you look on that website if you go to one to the left.
[00:10:42] So like the second model it's the brown stainless steel.
[00:10:45] Okay.
[00:10:45] I kind of dig that one too.
[00:10:47] I just don't know if it's me.
[00:10:49] Right.
[00:10:50] But I kind of want to see these in person because now I'm second guessing the 40 millimeter thing.
[00:10:56] You think it would be too small?
[00:10:57] Well based on what my son told me.
[00:10:59] I mean my fossil is 39 and a half and this one says 40.
[00:11:03] So I mean that's not.
[00:11:04] I mean that's real close.
[00:11:06] So I kind of want to see it in person.
[00:11:08] And I'm not sold on the leather strap.
[00:11:11] And you and me had a text message conversation about this because the material, the case is made out of stainless.
[00:11:19] But the leather strap is black which I like.
[00:11:24] So my question was do you think I could put a black bracelet on it?
[00:11:27] And you said that that might look a little weird since the case is stainless.
[00:11:30] And after you said it I think I agree with that.
[00:11:33] Yeah.
[00:11:33] You want your bracelet metal to match the case metal for sure.
[00:11:38] That's what I thought.
[00:11:39] So I thought it would look a little weird.
[00:11:40] So I'm leaning towards this one if I go with the Marlin.
[00:11:43] I really like the Marlin that have these throwback numbers to the 60s.
[00:11:52] Like they're like antique looking numbers at the 12, 3, and 9.
[00:11:55] Yeah.
[00:11:56] They kind of look art deco to me a little bit.
[00:11:58] But yeah, that's what first drew me to it.
[00:12:01] And like they just kept popping up in my ads.
[00:12:03] And the more I saw it the more I liked it.
[00:12:05] So this one's on the list.
[00:12:07] And then if I could go out and buy anything at all like today with like no money or no financial worries at all.
[00:12:15] It would be the Citizen that I linked here.
[00:12:18] I actually went to Kay because they're the only people I see advertising it.
[00:12:23] And they didn't have it in the store.
[00:12:25] He would have had to order it direct from Citizen.
[00:12:28] Okay.
[00:12:29] So he said he wasn't sure if it was just like really new and the stock was low or if it's like an older model and the stock is low.
[00:12:38] But he said that he personally has never seen the black watch with rose gold accents ever in his store.
[00:12:45] Hmm.
[00:12:46] This one's also solar.
[00:12:48] This one is also solar.
[00:12:49] And I really like what's what's selling this for me is like the black with the blue and the rose gold.
[00:12:55] Like I think it all works.
[00:12:57] I think it's awesome.
[00:12:58] I just don't want to drop $500.
[00:13:02] It's a little pricey.
[00:13:03] And now my question to you would be do you think it's pricey for what it is or do you think it's just a little more of expensive watch?
[00:13:11] Um so I will say that I am not I'm not well versed in what a radio controlled watch should cost.
[00:13:20] Okay.
[00:13:20] Fair enough.
[00:13:21] I mean like I'm not super I've never really looked into those types of watches before.
[00:13:26] Um so that said I mean they're showing it as 30% off right now.
[00:13:33] Right.
[00:13:34] Um I know that sometimes depending on where you buy it sometimes they'll they'll give you a deal.
[00:13:39] You know that that sort of thing.
[00:13:41] You can also shop around on um the what they call the gray market where uh you know you can find deals there as well rather than buying it from like a jeweler or something.
[00:13:51] But uh I mean citizen I mean I mean four or five hundred bucks for a good citizen.
[00:13:58] I mean it's not you know it's not outside the realm of reasonableness.
[00:14:03] It's not unheard of.
[00:14:04] Right.
[00:14:04] Yeah.
[00:14:05] But like you know 700 like 695 is the looks like the MSRP the regular price there.
[00:14:11] That that I think in my opinion would be too much for the watch.
[00:14:15] That that would have put it out.
[00:14:16] Like I'm still thinking about this this 486 and the guy at K did tell me that he could do a little better than what was on the website.
[00:14:24] But okay when people when they say that like I wouldn't expect anything more than like five ten percent more which is still a four hundred dollar watch.
[00:14:32] Yeah.
[00:14:32] I mean so I mean citizen is a you know there are they're definitely a respected brand that you know it's you know you wouldn't be like throwing your money away or anything like that.
[00:14:43] You know what I mean.
[00:14:44] Yeah I just think it's it's a little it's not how much I want to be spending right now.
[00:14:49] So I think sure I would probably be in this G-Shock and Timex and I think like I'd probably do the G-Shock first just because I have two two analogs and I'd want a digital.
[00:15:01] But like those are both in the same same kind of price range.
[00:15:04] So I think those are more realistic and the other one you know maybe like a I don't know he would maybe I'd have to something special.
[00:15:14] You know what I mean.
[00:15:15] I don't know.
[00:15:16] Sure.
[00:15:17] All right.
[00:15:18] Well is there anything new in in your world of watches before we exit the corner.
[00:15:24] No not really.
[00:15:25] Okay.
[00:15:26] Nothing new nothing on your Christmas list or anything like that.
[00:15:30] Um I mean not really.
[00:15:32] I mean I I'm always kind of like looking in some in some respects but like I'm not seriously looking at anything right now.
[00:15:39] That makes sense.
[00:15:40] I get it because like I feel the same way about pens.
[00:15:43] I'm constantly looking at pens but honestly I probably haven't bought a new pen like fountain pen in over a year.
[00:15:50] I think I just got to the point where like I like what I have and they're useful to me.
[00:15:55] So like I'm not really searching because.
[00:15:57] It's a it's a good place to be.
[00:15:58] Yeah.
[00:15:59] Yeah.
[00:15:59] Well the pen world's different.
[00:16:00] Well I can't say it's a little different than the watch world because I could go to a jewelry store and look at these watches in person and hold them in my hand and put it on and see how it feels.
[00:16:08] Where you know the the pens you really just have to buy online and hope for the best.
[00:16:12] But once I found what I liked it I'm just there.
[00:16:15] So I mean there's still some that I would like but they're kind of like in the citizen realm where it's just like I don't feel like spending that kind of money.
[00:16:22] Sure.
[00:16:23] So anyways if if anything else develops I'll we'll return to the corner in future episodes but it's been a while so I figured we'd kind of talk about it here.
[00:16:34] All right.
[00:16:35] So since we talked last like the last time we talked we announced that we were doing this NYC midnight 250 word microfiction challenge again and we were supposed to record before.
[00:16:47] Before it happened right turns out since we're so late we've already written the first round of our story so I figured we could just talk about it real quick.
[00:16:56] Why don't you kick us off like what did you get as far as like genre action and word for your for your group because we did end up in different groups.
[00:17:03] So I was pretty happy with what I was given even though I I didn't I didn't I didn't I had a hard time coming up with a good idea.
[00:17:11] Yeah.
[00:17:12] Um but my genre was action adventure which is to me pretty easy.
[00:17:19] Um my word I think was order and then the action that had to take place was blocking a passageway.
[00:17:29] So all pretty simple things that aren't you know super difficult but I really struggled with coming up with something that I really felt like I liked a lot.
[00:17:39] Yeah I remember you saying that to me but I think that what you came up with I thought it ended up really really good.
[00:17:44] Yeah it was okay like I don't love it like I feel like I like some of the some of the prior years entries that I did better than this.
[00:17:52] Gotcha.
[00:17:52] Well and you know that's fair because I mean you're definitely restricted with that time limit.
[00:17:58] You know 48 hours is not a lot of time to come up with a story and execute even if it's only and I say even if it's only 250 words but I think that even makes it harder.
[00:18:07] Like I think if we would have had 500 or a thousand words it might have been easier.
[00:18:10] Yeah in some respects.
[00:18:12] But um but yeah no I liked what you came up with.
[00:18:15] Um I thought it worked really well.
[00:18:17] So I didn't realize how big the groups were because I thought that they were around 30 but I was like looking um at the website before before we started recording today and the average is 42 in each group.
[00:18:31] Oh wow.
[00:18:32] And there's 43 in mine and only the top 10 move along so that made me a little more nervous.
[00:18:38] Yeah it's hard to tell because um on the forums you only get a handful of people sometimes who post their stories in your group and so you you don't really have any idea.
[00:18:48] I didn't realize you could go and look at the numbers on the website.
[00:18:51] Yeah so I what I did was I just um I went to the um like the assignment page and just typed in the group number and just kind of counted but yeah there's a ton of people in those groups.
[00:19:02] Yeah okay yeah.
[00:19:03] And so that made me a little nervous but um for my story I also got action adventure which you know I was really pleased with because I feel like I've got burden on the genres in the past.
[00:19:16] Um my action was setting off an avalanche and my word was third and my idea actually came to me relatively quickly.
[00:19:28] Like I just kind of sat there thinking about it for a while and I came up with this like this kind of generic like core of an idea and I like jotted down a couple of notes and I just went to bed.
[00:19:37] And I was like if this looks good in the morning I'm going to roll with it and if if I wake up and I think it sucks then I'm in trouble because I got nothing else.
[00:19:46] And uh I woke up looked good and I knocked it out.
[00:19:50] My first cut was 332 words which was way better than last year because I think I doubled it last year.
[00:19:56] I think I was over 500 last year and I had to cut my story in half.
[00:19:59] Uh so cutting the 250 really wasn't that bad.
[00:20:02] And I was relatively happy with what I came up with.
[00:20:06] Yeah it was you had a very um well what I liked about your story was that it was a very unique idea.
[00:20:12] Um you know with 250 words there's so much you have to leave out and cut out.
[00:20:17] Yeah for sure.
[00:20:18] And so you you almost have to rely heavily on everyday stuff or things that people will be able to pick up and form a form of visual or understand very quickly without a lot of descriptiveness.
[00:20:32] Yeah.
[00:20:32] Um so so because of that it's very hard to do something that's really unique or interesting and I think I think you pulled that off.
[00:20:38] And I think that's why like things like sci-fi and fantasy are really hard in this kind of challenge.
[00:20:43] Right.
[00:20:44] Because there's so much world building that needs to go on in those genres and you just don't have time for that.
[00:20:50] Right.
[00:20:51] So um I don't know fingers crossed we should we should have I think uh the website said that results should be in by January 15th.
[00:21:00] January yeah.
[00:21:01] And the next round starts on the 17th if we make it.
[00:21:04] So um I don't know good luck.
[00:21:08] We'll see what happens.
[00:21:09] Like you as well.
[00:21:10] Like I was feeling good about my story until I realized that I had to be in the top 10 out of 42.
[00:21:15] You know after so after last year I mean you I I think getting out of the first round is not is not super hard I think for for for either one of us.
[00:21:26] Well I missed it last year I did not get get out of the first round.
[00:21:29] I feel like I was like number 13 I think.
[00:21:32] But the second round the quality of the stories that I was able to see was much higher than the first round.
[00:21:40] So you know you because you get you're whittling it down to the best of the best kind of a thing.
[00:21:46] Getting out of the second round is what I think is going to be truly challenging.
[00:21:49] Gotcha.
[00:21:50] If we if that if we get there.
[00:21:51] Yeah I'm my goal is do better than last year which means I need to make it out of round one.
[00:21:57] So that's my goal.
[00:21:58] Anything past that's a bonus.
[00:22:02] Right.
[00:22:03] Yeah.
[00:22:03] So good luck.
[00:22:04] We'll talk about this.
[00:22:07] I don't know I guess a couple months from now after we figure out and I'm assuming once we're both done we'll we'll share our stories in one episode here.
[00:22:15] Oh yeah for sure.
[00:22:17] All right.
[00:22:18] So main topic for today.
[00:22:21] We did another book club.
[00:22:23] Which we haven't done in a while.
[00:22:25] I know we looked it up the last time we recorded.
[00:22:27] I don't remember when it was but it's been a while.
[00:22:28] It's been a while.
[00:22:29] I think it was I think the last one we did was our last episode with World Gone Geek.
[00:22:34] I think you're right.
[00:22:36] So we decided to go for it and we read The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells.
[00:22:41] Classic.
[00:22:42] Which I was really excited about because like you know I I've seen the movie like the original movie and then I actually thought that they did a they did a reboot of the movie not too long ago.
[00:22:54] And it wasn't Kevin Bacon.
[00:22:56] Huh.
[00:22:57] Was it Kevin Bacon that was in a let me look real quick because I want to say that it was Elizabeth Shue maybe could be making that up.
[00:23:06] It was Elizabeth Moss.
[00:23:08] Oliver Jackson Cohen was The Invisible Man.
[00:23:11] I don't know.
[00:23:12] Maybe that's there.
[00:23:14] There might have been a few of these but this was the last one I remembered seeing and this was hold on I already invisible man.
[00:23:21] Man this was in 2020.
[00:23:24] Yeah the one I'm thinking about was would have been in 90s or something like that.
[00:23:27] Maybe it was a similar concept but it wasn't The Invisible Man maybe.
[00:23:32] So I like I mean I'm a fan of the original.
[00:23:35] You know the one that was I want to say in 30 something.
[00:23:39] I've never seen it.
[00:23:40] 33.
[00:23:42] So they kind of loop The Invisible Man in with the classic monsters sometimes.
[00:23:46] Right.
[00:23:46] I'm not I'm seeing memoirs of an invisible man in 92 with Chevy Chase.
[00:23:51] No.
[00:23:52] Hmm.
[00:23:54] I see The Invisible Man as a TV series.
[00:23:57] I guess I got to search now.
[00:24:00] There's been a bunch of Invisible Man stuff it looks like.
[00:24:03] Who did you think was in it?
[00:24:05] Oh maybe it was Hollow Man.
[00:24:07] Maybe that's what I was thinking of.
[00:24:09] Yeah.
[00:24:10] Yeah.
[00:24:10] Elizabeth she was in this Hollow Man.
[00:24:13] I don't think I ever saw it.
[00:24:14] I just remember previews.
[00:24:15] Gotcha.
[00:24:16] And thinking it was like The Invisible Man.
[00:24:18] Gotcha.
[00:24:19] Yeah.
[00:24:20] But I mean for anybody who hasn't seen the movies I thought the 2021 was okay.
[00:24:24] If you like the old black and white classic horror movies I can't recommend going back
[00:24:30] to all of the original like Universal Monsters.
[00:24:33] But the 1933 Invisible Man is phenomenal if that's your thing.
[00:24:39] I know a lot of people don't like to watch the old movies but without those we don't have
[00:24:43] what we have today.
[00:24:45] So it is what it is.
[00:24:46] But so movies aside what you think of the book?
[00:24:50] I thought it was written very in an interesting way.
[00:24:54] Yeah.
[00:24:54] I mean it has that charming kind of quaint like it wasn't Victorian I guess but like you know
[00:25:04] the writing of that era just sort of has a vibe or a feel to it.
[00:25:08] Absolutely.
[00:25:09] And because what I'm looking up.
[00:25:10] It's fun to read I guess in that sense but.
[00:25:13] It was 1897.
[00:25:14] 1897.
[00:25:15] I mean I feel like you know when we read Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde you know and like
[00:25:22] I feel like Dracula maybe Frankenstein it's all sort of I feel like it's sort of of that
[00:25:28] era.
[00:25:29] Oh absolutely.
[00:25:30] I thought it was interesting the way that like you know the first few chapters you're
[00:25:36] third person you're you're just learning about this this guy that strange man coming
[00:25:43] into this town you know or whatever and then like you know maybe a third of the way into
[00:25:48] the book maybe all of a sudden he's telling his story.
[00:25:52] Yeah.
[00:25:52] And you kind of you're not quite in first person but because he's telling the story it feels
[00:25:57] like first person.
[00:25:58] Right.
[00:25:59] It was it felt like it felt weird at first but then the more I got into it I don't know
[00:26:06] it was kind of a novel approach to to the story.
[00:26:10] It was really interesting I I will say that I do think like the end might have been a little
[00:26:18] what's a good word to use underwhelming a little bit.
[00:26:24] Maybe yeah I mean he he they kind of I mean it's based on his rhetoric alone but the character
[00:26:31] I think his name is Griffin you know he has these these ideas that you know in in some
[00:26:38] sense exceed his grasp I think.
[00:26:42] Mm-hmm.
[00:26:43] You know based on what what he's been able to do in the story so far there these grandiose
[00:26:48] ideas about this reign of terror that he's going to have.
[00:26:51] Sure.
[00:26:51] Sure.
[00:26:51] But at the same time you do see the damage that he's done and so there is cause for concern
[00:26:56] and so because of that buildup I think you you expect like some big grand finale.
[00:27:01] Right.
[00:27:02] And you just don't get it.
[00:27:03] You don't really you don't get the grand finale really.
[00:27:07] But I also feel like that happens in a lot of other books of this sort of genre and whatnot
[00:27:13] it's it's there's you don't get you don't get that modern blockbuster build up and crescendo
[00:27:19] and stuff it's it's it's very it's a very different type of approach for for the storytelling
[00:27:24] for sure.
[00:27:25] So let me ask you a question.
[00:27:27] How did you feel about the chapter there might have been two chapters where it was pretty much
[00:27:33] all the science where he was trying to explain to the other scientist like what he like he
[00:27:40] was kind of sharing his discovery from his research.
[00:27:44] I just thought that like I thought it was too much.
[00:27:46] I mean I thought it was I mean maybe you could have condensed it I thought it was interesting
[00:27:51] in so far as just trying to understand you know because it's easier for us to look back
[00:27:56] and assume a lot of times incorrectly the the knowledge that people had at the time or
[00:28:04] possibly to look back and just not have a clear picture of what the knowledge was because you
[00:28:10] know that okay well scientific method and you know you know chemistry and like you know where
[00:28:16] it's kind of in the murky past you know generally like okay steam engines were about here and whatnot
[00:28:22] but like you don't really have a good idea of like maybe at what point people would be thinking
[00:28:27] with what type of you know I'm trying to think of the right word here how acute their thoughts
[00:28:37] are going to be about certain things.
[00:28:38] And so to me it was interesting to see from H.G. Wells perspective how he crafted
[00:28:48] in a time and place that he was writing what to me sounded like pretty reasonable
[00:28:55] pretty reasonable you know I'm putting science in quotes here but pretty reasonable science
[00:29:00] to explain and make it sound believable enough for the for the layman you know what I mean.
[00:29:05] Yeah and I I did I think I think it sounded believable and he was all talking about like
[00:29:10] just reflect refracting light essentially.
[00:29:12] Right.
[00:29:13] But um I I kind of relate it to like the science say in like Jurassic Park you know what I mean
[00:29:20] like when I first read Jurassic Park or even if you just saw the movie Jurassic Park they're
[00:29:24] like oh well of course mosquitoes bit dinosaurs of course there would be preserved mosquitoes
[00:29:30] so why wouldn't this be possible and you know there's a huge stretch to get there
[00:29:35] but it kind of made sense like if there's dinosaur DNA in the blood of a mosquito and you happen
[00:29:41] to find the right mosquito why not and that's really all you need is you just need the reader
[00:29:46] to be like yeah why not right right because I mean if somebody took it too seriously they're
[00:29:53] probably going to pick it apart and it's probably not the book for them.
[00:29:55] Well it's funny that you say that because I read that um and I don't know what time frame
[00:30:00] this happened but somebody an actual scientist had responded to you know the quote-unquote science
[00:30:06] in in the story.
[00:30:07] Oh cool.
[00:30:08] And and the fault that he found in it was that if you were truly rendered invisible in the manner
[00:30:15] described in the book you would be blind because part of the way that the eye works is that
[00:30:20] it it it absorbs light oh and so with with all you your eyes would basically be receiving too much
[00:30:28] light because you don't have like the eye socket and eyelids and all these other components that
[00:30:34] would be you know used to help block and absorb light and there would just be too much light
[00:30:40] into the into your eye at once and so you'd be blinded.
[00:30:45] So you'd just be blinded like you would see nothing.
[00:30:47] Yeah and so he the the commentary seemed to think that that H.G. Wells sort of knew this
[00:30:53] and which was why he was sort of hinting at being able to see the cat's irises um so in
[00:30:58] the story yeah he makes the cat invisible first before himself so he thinks that maybe he knew
[00:31:03] that but um.
[00:31:05] But then wouldn't his eyes have been floating though or do you think that the the like the
[00:31:10] retina I guess I don't really know how dark a retina is.
[00:31:13] Yeah I don't know I'm not sure you know work but like that was the one critique of
[00:31:17] and I don't know if there was more to the critique but that was the thing that was mentioned I thought
[00:31:21] that was interesting.
[00:31:22] That makes sense I just I just pulled up the um the Wikipedia page about the book and and that's
[00:31:26] here yeah that's here it says that that's where that's where I read it.
[00:31:30] So um I'll put the link to the Wikipedia in the show notes too if you guys want to read about it
[00:31:34] and also while you're at the Wikipedia page like I am in absolute love with the cover of the first
[00:31:41] edition from the UK and it's right there I I want this like I want to own this but I don't want to
[00:31:48] know how much a first edition of the invisible man is going to cost me.
[00:31:54] Probably a pretty penny.
[00:31:56] Yeah I'm gonna say it's probably outside my outside my my spending cap but I'll probably look that up
[00:32:07] there's a there's a website that I can't remember the name of right now where you can buy like first
[00:32:11] edition books like in good condition it's like people reselling books and I if I think of it
[00:32:17] while we're talking or maybe I can just google it real quick because we have we can edit the empty
[00:32:24] space out I think this is the one Abe Books is the one that I used to go to it looks like there's a
[00:32:30] couple but I'm just gonna while we're here I'm gonna see if I can find a copy of this
[00:32:37] visible man first edition
[00:32:42] nah I'm not seeing it here I wonder maybe I should go highest price
[00:32:52] holy balls
[00:32:54] so the oh this is the one that I see five grand
[00:33:00] first edition published by C. Arthur Pearson Limited London 1897
[00:33:06] yeah that's you gotta be a dedicated fan to make that make sense
[00:33:12] and I mean the condition condition is near fine but like who I mean it'd be a cool thing to have but
[00:33:21] like five grand I mean that I think of other things to spend five grand on
[00:33:25] no that's a lot and I mean like I like I liked this book I did not like it five grand
[00:33:32] it's only ten dollars a ship though oh there you go
[00:33:35] so five thousand and ten dollars you know it's kind of you know I'm just gonna call this seller out
[00:33:41] like if you're spending five grand on the book
[00:33:43] at that point just suck it up and ship it for free
[00:33:45] yeah
[00:33:45] yeah
[00:33:46] F that guy I'm buying a book from him
[00:33:49] he could join he's gonna join the list of
[00:33:52] reviewer number four three whatever in my book
[00:33:55] oh no not not not that tirade again
[00:34:00] I do want to I do want to commend Utah for
[00:34:03] was it Utah or was it Bednar that put the picture in uh
[00:34:07] in the group I think it was Bednar I think it was Bednar yeah no that was that made me laugh
[00:34:12] that was great but yeah five grand for a book and then you're gonna still
[00:34:16] make me pay ten dollars shipping get the hell out of here
[00:34:21] whatever anyways back to so um
[00:34:24] I I don't know I just I don't know how I don't really have all that much to say about it
[00:34:28] I mean I I thought it was a fun little story
[00:34:31] I thought it was told well
[00:34:33] I I would have liked to have seen the science condensed a little bit
[00:34:37] but I think you know
[00:34:38] I mean fair enough
[00:34:39] probably trying to sell it
[00:34:40] you know what I mean
[00:34:41] and and you figure the more passionate he is about the science in the book the more likely you are to believe it
[00:34:49] because if you gloss over it then it's easy to just dismiss like this is impossible
[00:34:53] yeah that's true
[00:34:54] I I think my my only real critique would be maybe the pacing of it I feel like
[00:35:00] the latter half of the book was more interesting to me than some of the first half
[00:35:04] mm-hmm I agree
[00:35:06] and so if we would have maybe changed up some of the pacing
[00:35:10] maybe maybe you wouldn't find the science um as long I don't I don't know
[00:35:15] yeah I well actually I thought it kind of stalled everything
[00:35:18] because it was like you know the first few chapters before you know he's discovered
[00:35:24] mm-hmm I don't think that was bad you have this mystery man you don't know what he's up to
[00:35:28] like we knew he was invisible everybody else didn't know
[00:35:30] so it was that kind of like that cool thing where we knew something that the
[00:35:33] the characters in the book didn't
[00:35:35] and then they found him
[00:35:37] and he's on the run
[00:35:39] and I'm like okay this is cool
[00:35:41] and then all of a sudden now we're just having a conversation for like seven chapters
[00:35:45] or whatever it was
[00:35:47] and then he's back on the run again
[00:35:48] yeah it's been a while since I've read it now I feel like because I I read it you know
[00:35:52] in anticipation of recording earlier
[00:35:54] sure sure sure
[00:35:55] it's not as fresh in my mind
[00:35:57] but I I I do see your point
[00:36:00] um
[00:36:01] so I think yeah the the pacing was weird for sure
[00:36:05] yeah I mean it's not it's not a long book so that it's
[00:36:08] you know if it were a longer book the pacing would be a more of a problem
[00:36:13] sure
[00:36:14] it's so short that it you know it doesn't amount to much but
[00:36:18] yeah I I actually read it like one and a half times
[00:36:21] because I actually um I bought it on the kindle when we recorded last time
[00:36:25] and for some reason I was like you know what I kind of want to read this
[00:36:28] print
[00:36:29] so I went up to the bookstore and I I picked up a copy and it had
[00:36:33] it's like six bucks and it had the invisible man and the time machine
[00:36:37] in the same book
[00:36:38] I've got the same thing
[00:36:38] so oh nice
[00:36:40] so I um I just read the invisible man part and then you know we had all the
[00:36:45] delays in recording so then I went back to the kindle one
[00:36:47] and I needed to flip through it anyways because I needed the kindle to record
[00:36:51] that I read the book
[00:36:52] for good reads and in my challenge and all that
[00:36:54] got it
[00:36:55] so I kind of like skimmed through it again
[00:36:57] and um
[00:36:59] yeah I mean
[00:37:00] I thought it was good
[00:37:01] it's something that I might reread again in the future
[00:37:04] if I'm being honest
[00:37:05] like it was
[00:37:06] it was short enough where
[00:37:08] it wouldn't take too long
[00:37:09] you could like
[00:37:09] you could bust that out over a holiday weekend if you wanted to
[00:37:13] yeah the thing about it too
[00:37:14] um
[00:37:14] I find that a lot of
[00:37:16] and even with movies
[00:37:17] um
[00:37:18] is you
[00:37:18] you know you go into some of these
[00:37:20] these stories
[00:37:22] with maybe a preconceived
[00:37:24] notion of what you think it's going to be
[00:37:25] or what you hope it's going to be
[00:37:28] and um
[00:37:29] you get to the end of it
[00:37:30] and you find that it didn't meet those expectations
[00:37:33] despite the fact that it was good on its own merits
[00:37:35] and so sometimes I find that
[00:37:38] if I go back and revisit something
[00:37:40] kind of knowing what it is
[00:37:41] versus what I thought it was going to be
[00:37:43] you can enjoy it more for what it is
[00:37:45] you know what I mean
[00:37:45] yeah
[00:37:46] yeah
[00:37:46] I feel like that's uh
[00:37:47] that's 100% fair
[00:37:49] so yeah like right now
[00:37:50] I just decided since I have the book sitting there
[00:37:53] I'm reading The Time Machine
[00:37:54] yeah
[00:37:55] and it's interesting because
[00:37:56] like I would be curious to
[00:37:59] and I might like
[00:38:00] after
[00:38:01] after I'm done with The Time Machine
[00:38:02] because I'm like right in the middle of it right now
[00:38:04] I'm going to jump over to
[00:38:06] to your book
[00:38:07] but I might do some more H.G. Wells
[00:38:09] like I might do like War of the Worlds
[00:38:11] because I'm interesting
[00:38:12] I found it interesting
[00:38:13] because I like
[00:38:13] did you do The Time Machine at all?
[00:38:15] so I read an abridged version of it to my kids
[00:38:18] okay
[00:38:18] um I've not read the actual version of it
[00:38:21] because it's kind of like um
[00:38:23] it starts off with
[00:38:25] a guy telling his story
[00:38:27] it's just like a guy telling his story again
[00:38:29] so
[00:38:29] right
[00:38:29] I feel like H.G. Wells has like a uh
[00:38:32] you know he's
[00:38:33] it's his thing
[00:38:34] his characters like to tell stories themselves
[00:38:37] which is
[00:38:37] which is 100% fine
[00:38:39] um
[00:38:39] I just thought it was interesting
[00:38:41] to see that same kind of um
[00:38:42] device used in
[00:38:44] in this other book
[00:38:45] and I think he's really known for what
[00:38:47] four
[00:38:48] four
[00:38:48] big ones
[00:38:49] like it was Invisible Man
[00:38:51] War of the Worlds
[00:38:53] The Time Machine
[00:38:55] yeah
[00:38:55] and there's
[00:38:56] I feel like there's one more
[00:38:57] I don't remember what else
[00:38:59] I've read
[00:39:00] uh
[00:39:00] War of the Worlds
[00:39:01] did you like it
[00:39:03] oh it was
[00:39:03] yeah I liked it
[00:39:04] it wasn't like amazing
[00:39:05] but I you know
[00:39:06] it's worth reading
[00:39:07] oh it was
[00:39:08] Island of Dr. Moreau
[00:39:09] was the other one
[00:39:10] oh that's right
[00:39:11] I've not read that
[00:39:12] but I saw the
[00:39:12] the terrible film
[00:39:14] so I think what I might do
[00:39:16] is I think I might just go on
[00:39:17] on a short little H.G. Wells kick
[00:39:19] because it seems like they're
[00:39:20] at least I hope they're all
[00:39:21] kind of short
[00:39:22] yeah
[00:39:23] to finish out the year
[00:39:24] after after I read your book
[00:39:25] so
[00:39:26] um
[00:39:27] cool
[00:39:27] yeah
[00:39:28] cool
[00:39:29] so I mean
[00:39:30] do you have anything else
[00:39:30] to say about
[00:39:31] I don't think so
[00:39:32] I'd say it's worth reading
[00:39:34] I'm glad I read it
[00:39:35] I think we need to make sure
[00:39:37] that um
[00:39:37] we routinely keep the book club
[00:39:39] as part of this
[00:39:40] because I think that was fun
[00:39:41] oh yeah
[00:39:42] for sure
[00:39:44] all right
[00:39:44] so
[00:39:46] I guess it's time
[00:39:47] story time
[00:39:47] it's story time
[00:39:48] so why don't you uh
[00:39:49] well it was your prompt
[00:39:51] so
[00:39:53] this is funny
[00:39:54] this one backfired on me
[00:39:55] this is funny
[00:39:55] I enjoyed this
[00:39:56] I enjoyed the hell out of this
[00:39:57] actually
[00:39:58] yeah the prompt is
[00:39:59] don't pick this one
[00:40:00] um
[00:40:02] I was starting off the poll
[00:40:03] and
[00:40:04] because people
[00:40:05] inadvertently
[00:40:06] uh voted for
[00:40:08] the prompt that
[00:40:09] I had used in the prior month
[00:40:10] I think
[00:40:10] right
[00:40:11] right
[00:40:11] I said don't pick this one
[00:40:13] and as soon as I typed that
[00:40:14] I'm like
[00:40:15] somebody's gonna pick this one
[00:40:16] yeah
[00:40:16] and they picked that one
[00:40:17] and of course
[00:40:18] that's what they voted for
[00:40:19] so
[00:40:19] I apologize
[00:40:21] hopefully the stories
[00:40:22] make up for it
[00:40:23] no yeah
[00:40:24] no I thought it was funny
[00:40:26] like I love the group
[00:40:27] the group makes me laugh
[00:40:28] and if you're not a member
[00:40:29] of the group
[00:40:30] join the group
[00:40:30] it's so much fun
[00:40:31] when we remember
[00:40:32] to post stuff in there
[00:40:33] they definitely uh
[00:40:34] they definitely have
[00:40:35] their own little brand
[00:40:36] of humor
[00:40:36] absolutely
[00:40:37] I love it
[00:40:38] so
[00:40:39] what do you got for us
[00:40:40] this month
[00:40:41] well I was
[00:40:42] in anticipation
[00:40:43] of the
[00:40:44] the microfiction contest
[00:40:45] I was gonna do
[00:40:46] a piece of microfiction
[00:40:47] and so
[00:40:47] I did a 249 word story
[00:40:51] wow
[00:40:52] so the edit
[00:40:53] will hopefully be
[00:40:54] super easy for you
[00:40:55] you know what
[00:40:55] you just made my day
[00:40:57] because we're 45 minutes in
[00:40:58] and that's like
[00:40:59] the best news ever
[00:41:00] I love you
[00:41:01] thank you so much
[00:41:02] yeah
[00:41:03] okay
[00:41:03] so
[00:41:04] the title of my story
[00:41:06] is socialite
[00:41:07] and here we go
[00:41:11] house party at night
[00:41:13] a mansion playground
[00:41:15] arrived late
[00:41:16] and buzzed
[00:41:17] how many drinks
[00:41:18] has it been
[00:41:20] paparazzi flash
[00:41:21] postured glamour
[00:41:22] a smirk
[00:41:24] inside
[00:41:25] a revolving
[00:41:26] cast of users
[00:41:27] music
[00:41:28] film
[00:41:28] tv
[00:41:29] but no questions asked
[00:41:31] who's who
[00:41:32] in industry faces
[00:41:33] people you've kissed
[00:41:35] people you've touched
[00:41:37] someone appears
[00:41:39] with a tray
[00:41:39] an assortment
[00:41:41] of various colors
[00:41:42] tabs
[00:41:47] a warning
[00:41:48] or cheeky hint
[00:41:50] at a choice substance
[00:41:52] you partake
[00:41:53] you don't care
[00:41:55] empty conversation
[00:41:56] so significant
[00:41:57] untoward eyes
[00:41:58] a handsome face
[00:42:00] of spite
[00:42:01] he's flirting
[00:42:02] with a whore
[00:42:02] you hate
[00:42:03] the bestie
[00:42:04] from a week ago
[00:42:05] tear her down
[00:42:07] spicy rumors
[00:42:08] and offhand remarks
[00:42:10] then you're flying
[00:42:11] revel and plunge deep
[00:42:13] gather near the pool
[00:42:15] dance around the edge
[00:42:16] bum a cigarette
[00:42:18] laugh it off
[00:42:19] drink from the bottle
[00:42:21] bubbles go right
[00:42:22] to your head
[00:42:24] snarky texts
[00:42:25] someone's naked
[00:42:27] incriminating photos
[00:42:28] ride the come down
[00:42:30] lounge on the patio
[00:42:33] breathe sweet night air
[00:42:35] ashtrays and abandoned cocktails
[00:42:38] someone's spilled purse
[00:42:39] board
[00:42:41] wander upstairs
[00:42:43] find the room with coke
[00:42:45] has-beens
[00:42:46] hangers-on
[00:42:47] and wannabes
[00:42:48] sit in a circle
[00:42:50] and do a line
[00:42:50] talk about important things
[00:42:53] laugh though it's not funny
[00:42:55] drop your guard
[00:42:56] no pretense
[00:42:58] belong
[00:42:58] speak deep
[00:43:00] think low
[00:43:01] become one
[00:43:03] stale
[00:43:04] find the bathroom
[00:43:06] vomit and smear your makeup
[00:43:08] drift in a haze
[00:43:10] see that whore again
[00:43:12] interject
[00:43:14] tantrum
[00:43:15] storm out and find the car
[00:43:17] middle finger at the cameras
[00:43:19] gun it
[00:43:20] think you might be pregnant again
[00:43:23] the end
[00:43:24] oh
[00:43:28] hold on
[00:43:30] hold on
[00:43:31] that fucking last line
[00:43:33] came out of nowhere
[00:43:35] hold on
[00:43:36] okay
[00:43:36] hold on
[00:43:37] I'm typing
[00:43:37] I'm typing
[00:43:38] typing that one down
[00:43:39] because I have notes
[00:43:40] but
[00:43:42] that
[00:43:43] so
[00:43:43] I think
[00:43:45] just
[00:43:46] just based on
[00:43:47] knowing you
[00:43:49] and the way you were reading
[00:43:51] I pictured
[00:43:52] you
[00:43:53] that whole time
[00:43:55] me?
[00:43:55] yeah
[00:43:55] I mean
[00:43:56] not necessarily you
[00:43:58] but someone like you
[00:43:58] like a dude
[00:43:59] so
[00:44:00] I'm not a
[00:44:01] I'm not a female socialite
[00:44:02] did you say female
[00:44:04] anywhere in there?
[00:44:05] uh
[00:44:06] no
[00:44:06] but I
[00:44:07] the term socialite
[00:44:08] is generally
[00:44:09] ascribed to a woman
[00:44:11] is it not?
[00:44:11] is it?
[00:44:12] yeah
[00:44:13] I don't know
[00:44:14] I was just
[00:44:14] a young woman
[00:44:15] generally
[00:44:16] okay
[00:44:16] so
[00:44:16] that's fair enough
[00:44:17] for me not being good
[00:44:18] with my vocabulary
[00:44:20] because I was just
[00:44:21] picturing you know
[00:44:21] like
[00:44:22] like a quasi
[00:44:24] famous celebrity type
[00:44:25] is what
[00:44:26] but I
[00:44:27] I was
[00:44:28] I was following a dude
[00:44:29] throughout
[00:44:29] of which I am
[00:44:30] I am not that either
[00:44:31] but okay
[00:44:32] but I was still
[00:44:33] I was following a dude
[00:44:34] like throughout that whole thing
[00:44:36] he's flirting with the whore you hate
[00:44:38] see there were hints here though
[00:44:39] that I just didn't pick up on
[00:44:41] I do like
[00:44:44] I was
[00:44:44] I
[00:44:45] I kind of snickered
[00:44:46] at the tray of drugs
[00:44:47] with the don't pick this one
[00:44:49] is it like
[00:44:50] warning or cheeky hint?
[00:44:51] it's
[00:44:51] it was definitely
[00:44:52] a cheeky hint
[00:44:53] if somebody had
[00:44:54] like
[00:44:55] not that I have experience
[00:44:56] with people with like
[00:44:57] walking around with trays of drugs
[00:44:59] or whatever
[00:44:59] but if somebody says
[00:45:00] don't take this one
[00:45:01] that's the one you should
[00:45:02] probably take
[00:45:03] right?
[00:45:04] I mean I think that was
[00:45:05] the takeaway here
[00:45:07] yeah
[00:45:07] I liked it
[00:45:07] so I'm a little pissed
[00:45:09] you know
[00:45:10] I do this a lot
[00:45:12] just over the course
[00:45:14] of this podcast
[00:45:14] I misread things constantly
[00:45:16] and it could be
[00:45:18] because I'm listening
[00:45:18] but like
[00:45:19] he's flirting with
[00:45:20] the whore you hate
[00:45:22] that should have given me
[00:45:24] what I needed
[00:45:25] to
[00:45:26] to make the connection
[00:45:27] to the character
[00:45:28] being a female
[00:45:29] well
[00:45:30] yeah I mean
[00:45:31] because why would
[00:45:32] why would it
[00:45:33] I mean I guess
[00:45:34] like a guy would be pissed
[00:45:35] if
[00:45:35] if he
[00:45:36] if his friend
[00:45:37] was hurting
[00:45:37] flirting with some horror
[00:45:38] but
[00:45:39] I take it for granted
[00:45:40] that
[00:45:40] that I'm the one
[00:45:41] that's writing it
[00:45:42] so I have the exact idea
[00:45:43] in my head
[00:45:44] so in
[00:45:45] in your defense
[00:45:46] that was probably
[00:45:48] the first hint
[00:45:49] that you should have
[00:45:50] I should have picked up on
[00:45:51] but I think I was trying to
[00:45:53] I was trying to focus in
[00:45:55] on everything
[00:45:56] because I
[00:45:56] what I really liked
[00:45:57] about this
[00:45:58] was like the
[00:45:59] like the staccato
[00:46:01] nature of it
[00:46:01] like very short
[00:46:02] like sentence fragments
[00:46:05] you know
[00:46:05] just like little things
[00:46:06] yeah
[00:46:07] that allowed me
[00:46:08] that allowed me
[00:46:09] to cheat on the word count
[00:46:11] you know what I mean
[00:46:11] well for sure
[00:46:12] but I
[00:46:12] but it
[00:46:13] but it fit
[00:46:13] it fits the style
[00:46:14] it had a certain
[00:46:15] charm to it
[00:46:16] that
[00:46:17] that I liked
[00:46:18] because like
[00:46:18] it was almost
[00:46:20] it was almost poetic
[00:46:22] I would say
[00:46:22] because there was
[00:46:23] there was
[00:46:24] you formed a rhythm
[00:46:25] you know
[00:46:25] you fell into a rhythm
[00:46:26] oh okay
[00:46:27] and um
[00:46:28] there were just like
[00:46:29] little things
[00:46:30] that like
[00:46:31] even though the
[00:46:32] the words were sparse
[00:46:35] you painted a picture
[00:46:36] because you
[00:46:37] you just saw this person
[00:46:38] moving through
[00:46:39] like
[00:46:39] like I
[00:46:40] I tried to jot down
[00:46:42] a bunch of them
[00:46:43] that just kind of
[00:46:44] like grabbed my interest
[00:46:45] when you were coming through
[00:46:45] and it was like
[00:46:46] ashtrays and abandoned cocktails
[00:46:48] like
[00:46:48] uh
[00:46:49] find the room with coke
[00:46:50] which made me
[00:46:52] I tried to choke down a laugh
[00:46:54] because
[00:46:54] like
[00:46:55] find the room with coke
[00:46:56] um
[00:46:57] I thought
[00:46:58] laugh though
[00:46:59] it's not funny
[00:47:00] was very like
[00:47:01] sincere
[00:47:03] like that's something
[00:47:04] that people do
[00:47:05] probably all the time
[00:47:06] at gatherings
[00:47:07] it's like
[00:47:07] oh it's not funny
[00:47:09] um
[00:47:10] you know what I mean
[00:47:11] like
[00:47:11] that's like
[00:47:11] right
[00:47:12] um
[00:47:13] the
[00:47:14] the one that really
[00:47:15] kind of grabbed me too
[00:47:16] was like
[00:47:17] belong
[00:47:18] because like
[00:47:19] even though
[00:47:19] like I pictured this
[00:47:20] like the socialite
[00:47:21] I did
[00:47:22] pick up on like
[00:47:23] the the famous aspect
[00:47:24] of it
[00:47:25] even though I didn't
[00:47:25] pick up on the
[00:47:26] female part of it
[00:47:26] but it
[00:47:27] I thought it was
[00:47:28] telling
[00:47:29] um
[00:47:30] that like
[00:47:31] somebody of this
[00:47:32] status
[00:47:32] like moving
[00:47:33] like through the
[00:47:33] party like this
[00:47:34] would
[00:47:36] feel like
[00:47:37] they almost
[00:47:37] didn't belong
[00:47:38] even though
[00:47:38] you would
[00:47:39] think that
[00:47:39] like a socialite
[00:47:41] so let's say
[00:47:41] if this was
[00:47:42] like Paris Hilton
[00:47:42] like
[00:47:43] wouldn't people
[00:47:44] be drawn to her
[00:47:45] like
[00:47:45] you wouldn't
[00:47:46] think she would
[00:47:47] be worried
[00:47:47] about fitting
[00:47:48] in or belonging
[00:47:49] so I thought
[00:47:50] that that was
[00:47:50] kind of
[00:47:51] just like
[00:47:51] um
[00:47:52] a very human
[00:47:53] a few
[00:47:54] very human
[00:47:55] characteristic
[00:47:56] there
[00:47:57] think you
[00:47:58] might be
[00:47:58] pregnant
[00:47:58] again
[00:47:59] blew me
[00:48:00] away
[00:48:00] because I
[00:48:01] did not
[00:48:01] did you
[00:48:03] mention
[00:48:03] sexual
[00:48:03] relations
[00:48:04] at all
[00:48:05] no
[00:48:05] no
[00:48:06] I mean
[00:48:06] and you
[00:48:07] wouldn't
[00:48:07] know
[00:48:07] that
[00:48:07] that
[00:48:08] quickly
[00:48:08] obviously
[00:48:09] no
[00:48:09] but like
[00:48:10] but then
[00:48:11] again
[00:48:11] I don't
[00:48:11] know
[00:48:12] I mean
[00:48:12] it was
[00:48:12] just meant
[00:48:13] to be a
[00:48:14] parting
[00:48:14] shot
[00:48:15] at the
[00:48:16] the whole
[00:48:17] theme
[00:48:17] was I was
[00:48:18] trying to
[00:48:18] paint the
[00:48:19] picture of
[00:48:19] somebody
[00:48:19] who was
[00:48:20] kind of
[00:48:21] like
[00:48:21] reckless
[00:48:22] and
[00:48:22] irresponsible
[00:48:22] and
[00:48:23] I mean
[00:48:23] with trays
[00:48:24] of drugs
[00:48:24] you know
[00:48:25] didn't
[00:48:26] take any
[00:48:26] responsibility
[00:48:27] for their
[00:48:28] life or
[00:48:29] whatever
[00:48:29] and just
[00:48:29] kind of
[00:48:30] like
[00:48:31] drifted
[00:48:31] from one
[00:48:31] situation
[00:48:32] to another
[00:48:33] no I
[00:48:33] thought
[00:48:34] I thought
[00:48:34] that was
[00:48:34] really fun
[00:48:36] yeah I
[00:48:36] wasn't sure
[00:48:37] whether you're
[00:48:37] gonna like
[00:48:37] it or not
[00:48:38] um
[00:48:38] yeah no
[00:48:39] I did
[00:48:39] I like
[00:48:39] the pace
[00:48:40] and I
[00:48:40] really did
[00:48:41] like the
[00:48:41] like
[00:48:42] you know
[00:48:42] all the
[00:48:43] like the
[00:48:44] little fragments
[00:48:44] like it
[00:48:45] was just
[00:48:45] like these
[00:48:45] these little
[00:48:46] things
[00:48:46] it's
[00:48:47] like
[00:48:47] things
[00:48:47] that you
[00:48:48] would
[00:48:48] think
[00:48:48] as you
[00:48:49] were
[00:48:49] wandering
[00:48:49] through
[00:48:50] a party
[00:48:51] or something
[00:48:51] that you
[00:48:51] might not
[00:48:53] I did
[00:48:53] highlight
[00:48:54] drink
[00:48:54] from the
[00:48:55] bottle
[00:48:55] and we're
[00:48:56] going to put
[00:48:56] a pin
[00:48:57] in that
[00:48:57] because I
[00:48:58] just think
[00:48:58] it's
[00:48:59] after I
[00:49:00] read my
[00:49:00] story
[00:49:00] I'll tell
[00:49:01] you why
[00:49:01] I think
[00:49:01] that's
[00:49:02] funny
[00:49:02] okay
[00:49:03] um
[00:49:03] just
[00:49:04] and it's
[00:49:04] not that I
[00:49:05] think it's
[00:49:05] funny
[00:49:06] it's just
[00:49:06] I think
[00:49:07] it's um
[00:49:09] coincidental
[00:49:09] that you
[00:49:10] said drink
[00:49:10] from the
[00:49:11] bottle
[00:49:11] after
[00:49:11] after I
[00:49:12] read my
[00:49:12] story
[00:49:12] and like
[00:49:14] don't
[00:49:14] don't think
[00:49:15] too much
[00:49:15] about it
[00:49:15] because you'll
[00:49:16] never get
[00:49:16] it
[00:49:16] it's just
[00:49:17] it's like
[00:49:17] a little
[00:49:17] one-off
[00:49:18] thing
[00:49:18] that's
[00:49:18] only gonna
[00:49:19] make sense
[00:49:19] to me
[00:49:20] and a handful
[00:49:21] of other
[00:49:21] people who
[00:49:21] have seen
[00:49:22] this movie
[00:49:22] okay
[00:49:23] but um
[00:49:24] yeah no
[00:49:24] it was
[00:49:24] really good
[00:49:25] so do you
[00:49:25] think that
[00:49:26] that prepped
[00:49:26] you for
[00:49:27] the um
[00:49:28] the challenge
[00:49:29] like did it
[00:49:30] get you into
[00:49:30] that mindset
[00:49:32] maybe a little
[00:49:32] bit I I
[00:49:33] think I
[00:49:34] so this is
[00:49:35] the second
[00:49:35] time that
[00:49:35] I've tried
[00:49:36] to do
[00:49:36] this so
[00:49:36] last year
[00:49:38] the December
[00:49:38] episode I
[00:49:39] did I think
[00:49:39] it was the
[00:49:40] December episode
[00:49:40] I can't
[00:49:40] no it must
[00:49:41] have been
[00:49:41] the November
[00:49:41] episode
[00:49:43] I did a
[00:49:43] story that
[00:49:44] I liked a
[00:49:45] lot that
[00:49:45] I'm like
[00:49:45] wow I wish
[00:49:46] I could
[00:49:46] have used
[00:49:47] this for
[00:49:47] the contest
[00:49:48] and so in
[00:49:49] this case I'm
[00:49:49] like I
[00:49:50] really wish
[00:49:50] I could have
[00:49:51] used this
[00:49:52] for the
[00:49:52] contest because
[00:49:52] I think it's
[00:49:53] better than
[00:49:53] what I
[00:49:54] submitted
[00:49:55] but don't
[00:49:56] sell yourself
[00:49:56] short I
[00:49:57] think I
[00:49:57] think you
[00:49:57] did a good
[00:49:58] job with
[00:49:58] your with
[00:49:59] your story
[00:49:59] we'll find
[00:50:00] out yeah
[00:50:01] I'm nervous
[00:50:02] I don't like
[00:50:02] waiting for
[00:50:03] the I wish
[00:50:03] they could
[00:50:04] judge quicker
[00:50:04] I mean I
[00:50:04] get it if
[00:50:05] these judges
[00:50:05] have 42
[00:50:07] stories to
[00:50:08] judge and
[00:50:08] rank and
[00:50:09] and all that
[00:50:10] right from
[00:50:11] the writer's
[00:50:11] perspective
[00:50:12] like I just
[00:50:12] want to know
[00:50:13] if I made
[00:50:13] it or not
[00:50:14] right but
[00:50:15] whatever but
[00:50:16] yeah no this
[00:50:16] was great
[00:50:17] okay cool
[00:50:19] all right
[00:50:20] so I guess
[00:50:21] it's my turn
[00:50:22] so it's
[00:50:24] your turn
[00:50:24] we need
[00:50:25] some closure
[00:50:25] yeah so
[00:50:27] for those of
[00:50:28] you who might
[00:50:28] not listen
[00:50:29] every month
[00:50:29] the past
[00:50:30] two months
[00:50:31] I have
[00:50:32] done
[00:50:33] installments
[00:50:33] of stories
[00:50:34] essentially
[00:50:34] like in
[00:50:35] the I
[00:50:36] guess it
[00:50:37] would be
[00:50:37] September
[00:50:37] episode
[00:50:38] I did a
[00:50:39] first for
[00:50:40] the podcast
[00:50:41] I think
[00:50:41] where I
[00:50:42] put it to
[00:50:43] be continued
[00:50:43] in in the
[00:50:45] story and
[00:50:46] when I
[00:50:46] did that
[00:50:47] unbeknownst to
[00:50:48] you I
[00:50:49] had already
[00:50:49] planned to
[00:50:50] take my
[00:50:51] love to
[00:50:51] for back
[00:50:52] to the
[00:50:52] future and
[00:50:53] put that
[00:50:53] plan into
[00:50:54] action and
[00:50:55] for the
[00:50:56] October story
[00:50:56] I said to
[00:50:57] be concluded
[00:50:58] so this
[00:50:59] month you're
[00:51:00] going to get
[00:51:00] the conclusion
[00:51:01] but I think
[00:51:02] that I might
[00:51:02] I might just
[00:51:03] do like a
[00:51:04] quick catch up
[00:51:04] for those of
[00:51:06] you just as a
[00:51:07] quick reminder
[00:51:07] because you
[00:51:08] know these
[00:51:09] are so far
[00:51:09] apart so
[00:51:11] the first part
[00:51:12] of the story
[00:51:13] we had a
[00:51:13] trucker who
[00:51:14] saw some
[00:51:15] shenanigans
[00:51:15] going on
[00:51:16] outside one
[00:51:18] of his
[00:51:18] normal rest
[00:51:19] stops that
[00:51:20] he frequents
[00:51:21] it was some
[00:51:22] kids playing
[00:51:23] around with
[00:51:24] didn't look
[00:51:25] any like
[00:51:26] in any
[00:51:26] adult supervision
[00:51:27] and he
[00:51:28] just he
[00:51:29] noticed and
[00:51:29] you know he
[00:51:30] came back the
[00:51:31] next week and
[00:51:32] it was same
[00:51:32] woman different
[00:51:33] kids which he
[00:51:34] thought was odd
[00:51:34] and then
[00:51:37] you know he
[00:51:38] came back again
[00:51:38] the third time
[00:51:39] and there was
[00:51:40] just more shit
[00:51:41] going on and
[00:51:41] he went and
[00:51:42] made contact
[00:51:42] with the woman
[00:51:44] and even though
[00:51:46] he knew
[00:51:46] something was
[00:51:47] wrong she
[00:51:47] said she
[00:51:47] was fine
[00:51:49] and he
[00:51:50] kind of
[00:51:51] I don't know
[00:51:52] he just kind
[00:51:52] of brushed
[00:51:52] it off but
[00:51:53] then he
[00:51:54] ended up
[00:51:55] following this
[00:51:56] woman into
[00:51:57] the back
[00:51:57] door of
[00:51:58] this rest
[00:51:58] stop and
[00:52:00] that was
[00:52:01] where story
[00:52:02] one ended
[00:52:04] so story
[00:52:05] two picks
[00:52:05] up he's
[00:52:07] been almost
[00:52:07] abducted by
[00:52:10] the people
[00:52:11] who were in
[00:52:11] the rest
[00:52:12] stop and
[00:52:12] it's a bunch
[00:52:13] of kids
[00:52:14] seemingly
[00:52:15] no adults
[00:52:16] around
[00:52:16] the woman
[00:52:16] that he
[00:52:17] saw in
[00:52:18] this first
[00:52:18] story was
[00:52:19] chained to
[00:52:20] a bed
[00:52:21] they were
[00:52:21] these I
[00:52:22] mean it
[00:52:22] really was
[00:52:23] just like a
[00:52:24] bunch of
[00:52:24] just like
[00:52:25] rogue kids
[00:52:26] just running
[00:52:26] around didn't
[00:52:27] know what was
[00:52:27] going on and
[00:52:28] then towards
[00:52:28] the end of
[00:52:29] the story
[00:52:29] Peter Pan
[00:52:29] gone wrong
[00:52:30] right and
[00:52:31] then towards
[00:52:32] the end of
[00:52:32] the story
[00:52:32] there's this
[00:52:33] big trucker
[00:52:33] that comes
[00:52:34] in and
[00:52:37] you know we
[00:52:37] don't really
[00:52:38] know what's
[00:52:38] going to
[00:52:38] happen to
[00:52:39] him when
[00:52:40] it ends
[00:52:40] we know
[00:52:41] that he
[00:52:41] has alerted
[00:52:42] his wife
[00:52:42] based on
[00:52:43] a text
[00:52:43] message system
[00:52:44] that they
[00:52:44] have developed
[00:52:45] over years
[00:52:46] of him being
[00:52:46] on the road
[00:52:47] and with
[00:52:47] their kids
[00:52:47] and all
[00:52:48] so where
[00:52:50] we left
[00:52:50] this man
[00:52:51] is he
[00:52:52] is tied
[00:52:53] to a chair
[00:52:54] the text
[00:52:55] message
[00:52:56] system
[00:52:57] has been
[00:52:57] sent
[00:52:58] we hope
[00:52:58] that his
[00:52:59] wife
[00:53:00] received
[00:53:00] the message
[00:53:01] or is
[00:53:01] responding
[00:53:02] in some
[00:53:03] way
[00:53:03] and his
[00:53:03] phone
[00:53:04] is snapped
[00:53:04] in half
[00:53:05] at the end
[00:53:05] of story
[00:53:06] two
[00:53:07] so
[00:53:08] right now
[00:53:10] he's tied
[00:53:11] to a chair
[00:53:11] with this
[00:53:12] huge man
[00:53:13] hovering over
[00:53:14] him in a
[00:53:15] warehouse full
[00:53:15] of kids
[00:53:16] and I
[00:53:17] guess we
[00:53:18] get to find
[00:53:18] out what
[00:53:18] happens
[00:53:18] now
[00:53:19] are you
[00:53:20] ready
[00:53:20] all right
[00:53:21] lay it
[00:53:21] on me
[00:53:22] all right
[00:53:22] so
[00:53:24] as you
[00:53:25] all know
[00:53:25] I like
[00:53:26] to insert
[00:53:27] little tiny
[00:53:27] tidbits of
[00:53:28] pop culture
[00:53:29] into my
[00:53:29] stories whenever
[00:53:30] I can
[00:53:30] so the
[00:53:31] first story
[00:53:32] was called
[00:53:33] suspicion of
[00:53:34] mischief
[00:53:35] the second
[00:53:36] story was
[00:53:36] called
[00:53:37] mischief
[00:53:37] confirmed
[00:53:38] and then
[00:53:39] this story
[00:53:40] I kind of
[00:53:41] borrowed from
[00:53:41] harry potter
[00:53:42] and it is
[00:53:43] called
[00:53:43] mischief
[00:53:44] managed
[00:53:47] margie
[00:53:47] saw her
[00:53:48] husband's
[00:53:48] rig as
[00:53:48] she passed
[00:53:49] from the
[00:53:49] opposite side
[00:53:49] of the
[00:53:50] freeway
[00:53:51] she'd be
[00:53:51] keeping an
[00:53:52] eye on the
[00:53:52] little green
[00:53:53] dot providing
[00:53:53] his location
[00:53:54] and it
[00:53:54] hadn't moved
[00:53:55] since shortly
[00:53:55] after the
[00:53:56] texty center
[00:53:58] she cursed
[00:53:58] the traffic
[00:53:59] light that
[00:53:59] was taking
[00:54:00] its sweet
[00:54:00] ass time
[00:54:00] and letting
[00:54:01] her back
[00:54:01] on the
[00:54:01] interstate
[00:54:03] after that
[00:54:03] it was only
[00:54:04] a mile or
[00:54:04] so before
[00:54:04] she'd be in
[00:54:05] the parking
[00:54:05] lot next to
[00:54:06] his tractor
[00:54:06] trailer
[00:54:08] god it was
[00:54:08] taking forever
[00:54:10] would there
[00:54:11] ever be any
[00:54:11] sort of
[00:54:12] technology that
[00:54:12] would allow
[00:54:13] traffic signals
[00:54:13] to understand
[00:54:14] urgency
[00:54:15] the light
[00:54:16] changed and
[00:54:17] she left a
[00:54:17] considerable
[00:54:17] amount of
[00:54:18] rubber on
[00:54:18] the pavement
[00:54:18] as she
[00:54:19] peeled onto
[00:54:19] the highway
[00:54:20] she swerved
[00:54:21] around a few
[00:54:22] slow-moving
[00:54:22] cars earning
[00:54:23] a few dirty
[00:54:24] looks and
[00:54:24] one questionable
[00:54:25] finger in
[00:54:26] the process
[00:54:26] but she
[00:54:27] couldn't care
[00:54:28] less
[00:54:29] the only
[00:54:29] person she
[00:54:30] had left
[00:54:30] in the
[00:54:30] world
[00:54:31] was in
[00:54:31] danger
[00:54:32] she just
[00:54:33] wished that
[00:54:33] there was
[00:54:33] someone more
[00:54:34] capable than
[00:54:34] her to
[00:54:35] stop it
[00:54:35] whatever it
[00:54:36] turned out
[00:54:36] to be
[00:54:37] but there
[00:54:38] was no
[00:54:38] time
[00:54:39] and if she
[00:54:40] was being
[00:54:40] honest with
[00:54:40] herself
[00:54:41] there was
[00:54:42] no one she
[00:54:42] could have
[00:54:43] even reached
[00:54:43] out to
[00:54:44] if anything
[00:54:45] happened to
[00:54:45] him
[00:54:46] anything at
[00:54:46] all
[00:54:47] she would
[00:54:47] be left
[00:54:48] alone in
[00:54:48] this world
[00:54:50] she ignored
[00:54:51] the signs
[00:54:52] used to
[00:54:52] direct cars
[00:54:52] and RVs
[00:54:53] away from
[00:54:53] the trucks
[00:54:54] and came
[00:54:54] to a
[00:54:54] screeching
[00:54:55] halt
[00:54:55] next to
[00:54:55] his
[00:54:55] trailer
[00:54:56] she pulled
[00:54:57] her phone
[00:54:57] out of
[00:54:57] the mount
[00:54:58] on her
[00:54:58] vent
[00:54:59] double-checked
[00:55:00] to make
[00:55:00] sure he
[00:55:00] hadn't
[00:55:00] moved
[00:55:01] and jumped
[00:55:01] out of
[00:55:02] the car
[00:55:03] she tried
[00:55:03] the door
[00:55:04] to his cab
[00:55:04] but it
[00:55:04] was locked
[00:55:05] tight
[00:55:05] the passenger
[00:55:06] side
[00:55:06] was the
[00:55:07] same
[00:55:08] she
[00:55:08] continued
[00:55:08] to move
[00:55:09] around
[00:55:09] the truck
[00:55:09] looking for
[00:55:10] any
[00:55:10] signs
[00:55:10] of a
[00:55:10] struggle
[00:55:11] but
[00:55:12] everything
[00:55:12] appeared
[00:55:12] clean
[00:55:14] she
[00:55:14] leaned
[00:55:14] her forehead
[00:55:15] against
[00:55:15] the back
[00:55:15] of the
[00:55:16] trailer
[00:55:16] trying to
[00:55:19] what the
[00:55:19] hell
[00:55:20] could she
[00:55:20] possibly
[00:55:20] do
[00:55:21] she
[00:55:22] was
[00:55:22] five
[00:55:22] foot
[00:55:22] nothing
[00:55:23] maybe
[00:55:23] 110
[00:55:24] pounds
[00:55:24] soaking wet
[00:55:25] making her
[00:55:26] effectively
[00:55:27] the least
[00:55:27] intimidating
[00:55:27] person
[00:55:28] on the
[00:55:28] face
[00:55:28] of the
[00:55:28] planet
[00:55:30] she
[00:55:30] looked up
[00:55:31] ready to
[00:55:31] scream
[00:55:32] at the
[00:55:32] sky
[00:55:32] when a
[00:55:33] royal blue
[00:55:33] sticker
[00:55:34] on the
[00:55:34] back
[00:55:34] of the
[00:55:34] trailer
[00:55:35] caught
[00:55:35] her
[00:55:35] attention
[00:55:37] she
[00:55:38] used
[00:55:38] her
[00:55:38] shirt
[00:55:38] to
[00:55:38] wipe
[00:55:38] away
[00:55:39] miles
[00:55:39] of
[00:55:39] dirt
[00:55:39] and
[00:55:40] grime
[00:55:40] and
[00:55:40] step
[00:55:40] back
[00:55:41] to
[00:55:41] take
[00:55:41] it
[00:55:41] in
[00:55:43] remembrance
[00:55:44] of
[00:55:44] Angela
[00:55:44] Wilkes
[00:55:46] 2003
[00:55:46] to
[00:55:47] 2016
[00:55:48] gone
[00:55:49] but
[00:55:50] never
[00:55:50] forgotten
[00:55:53] it had
[00:55:53] been
[00:55:53] years
[00:55:54] since
[00:55:54] she'd
[00:55:54] seen
[00:55:54] this
[00:55:54] sticker
[00:55:55] she
[00:55:56] had
[00:55:56] it
[00:55:56] made
[00:55:56] for
[00:55:56] him
[00:55:56] just
[00:55:57] after
[00:55:57] they
[00:55:57] lost
[00:55:57] her
[00:55:58] while
[00:55:58] they
[00:55:58] were
[00:55:58] figuring
[00:55:58] out
[00:55:59] how
[00:55:59] to
[00:55:59] deal
[00:55:59] with
[00:55:59] the
[00:55:59] grief
[00:56:00] that
[00:56:00] came
[00:56:00] with
[00:56:00] losing
[00:56:00] a
[00:56:00] child
[00:56:02] she
[00:56:02] used
[00:56:02] to
[00:56:02] have
[00:56:03] one
[00:56:03] on
[00:56:03] her
[00:56:03] own
[00:56:03] vehicle
[00:56:03] as
[00:56:04] well
[00:56:04] but
[00:56:04] declined
[00:56:05] to
[00:56:05] put
[00:56:05] one
[00:56:05] on
[00:56:05] her
[00:56:05] new
[00:56:06] car
[00:56:06] it
[00:56:08] time
[00:56:08] for
[00:56:09] her
[00:56:09] to
[00:56:09] let
[00:56:09] go
[00:56:10] even
[00:56:10] though
[00:56:10] she
[00:56:11] knew
[00:56:11] that
[00:56:11] to
[00:56:11] be
[00:56:11] impossible
[00:56:14] she
[00:56:14] was
[00:56:14] lost
[00:56:14] in
[00:56:14] memories
[00:56:15] past
[00:56:15] when
[00:56:15] a
[00:56:15] glimmer
[00:56:16] of
[00:56:16] light
[00:56:16] caught
[00:56:16] her
[00:56:16] attention
[00:56:18] she
[00:56:18] turned
[00:56:19] toward
[00:56:19] the
[00:56:19] building
[00:56:19] and
[00:56:19] found
[00:56:19] a
[00:56:20] group
[00:56:42] trying
[00:56:42] her
[00:56:42] best
[00:56:42] to
[00:56:43] remain
[00:56:43] aware
[00:56:43] of
[00:56:43] her
[00:56:43] surroundings
[00:56:45] it
[00:56:45] was
[00:56:45] probably
[00:56:45] only
[00:56:46] a
[00:56:46] few
[00:56:46] hundred
[00:56:46] feet
[00:56:47] in
[00:56:47] total
[00:56:47] but
[00:56:48] it
[00:56:48] felt
[00:56:48] like
[00:56:48] a
[00:56:48] mile
[00:56:49] a
[00:56:49] mile
[00:56:50] in
[00:56:50] the
[00:56:50] middle
[00:56:50] of
[00:56:50] a
[00:56:51] barren
[00:56:51] parking
[00:56:51] lot
[00:56:51] under
[00:56:52] the
[00:56:52] scorching
[00:56:52] summer
[00:56:53] sun
[00:56:54] she
[00:56:54] couldn't
[00:56:55] have
[00:56:55] felt
[00:56:55] any
[00:56:55] more
[00:56:55] vulnerable
[00:56:57] when
[00:56:57] she
[00:56:58] got
[00:56:58] to
[00:56:58] the
[00:56:58] building
[00:56:58] she
[00:56:58] ducked
[00:56:59] into
[00:56:59] a
[00:56:59] row
[00:56:59] of
[00:56:59] bushes
[00:56:59] beside
[00:57:00] the
[00:57:00] door
[00:57:00] in
[00:57:00] an
[00:57:01] attempt
[00:57:01] to
[00:57:01] get
[00:57:01] a
[00:57:01] handle
[00:57:01] on
[00:57:02] the
[00:57:02] situation
[00:57:02] and
[00:57:03] determine
[00:57:03] her
[00:57:03] next
[00:57:03] move
[00:57:05] how
[00:57:05] in
[00:57:05] the
[00:57:05] hell
[00:57:05] was
[00:57:06] she
[00:57:06] going
[00:57:06] to
[00:57:06] get
[00:57:06] in
[00:57:07] and
[00:57:08] better
[00:57:08] yet
[00:57:09] what
[00:57:09] was
[00:57:09] going
[00:57:09] to
[00:57:09] be
[00:57:09] waiting
[00:57:09] for
[00:57:10] her
[00:57:10] on
[00:57:10] the
[00:57:10] other
[00:57:10] side
[00:57:10] when
[00:57:11] she
[00:57:11] did
[00:57:13] she
[00:57:13] didn't
[00:57:13] have
[00:57:13] to
[00:57:13] wait
[00:57:13] too
[00:57:14] long
[00:57:14] to
[00:57:14] get
[00:57:14] an
[00:57:14] answer
[00:57:15] the
[00:57:15] door
[00:57:16] swung
[00:57:16] open
[00:57:16] and
[00:57:16] a
[00:57:17] couple
[00:57:17] of
[00:57:17] giggling
[00:57:17] kids
[00:57:17] came
[00:57:18] barreling
[00:57:18] out
[00:57:19] her
[00:57:19] initial
[00:57:19] reaction
[00:57:20] was
[00:57:20] to
[00:57:20] curl
[00:57:21] into
[00:57:21] a
[00:57:21] fetal
[00:57:21] position
[00:57:21] to
[00:57:22] make
[00:57:22] herself
[00:57:22] as
[00:57:23] small
[00:57:23] as
[00:57:23] possible
[00:57:24] why
[00:57:25] she
[00:57:25] was
[00:57:25] afraid
[00:57:25] of
[00:57:25] a
[00:57:25] couple
[00:57:26] of
[00:57:26] children
[00:57:26] she
[00:57:27] couldn't
[00:57:27] explain
[00:57:28] hurry
[00:57:29] up
[00:57:29] said
[00:57:29] one
[00:57:29] to
[00:57:30] the
[00:57:30] other
[00:57:30] I
[00:57:31] want
[00:57:31] to
[00:57:31] see
[00:57:31] what
[00:57:31] he's
[00:57:31] going
[00:57:31] to
[00:57:31] do
[00:57:31] to
[00:57:32] him
[00:57:32] next
[00:57:33] oh
[00:57:33] shut
[00:57:34] up
[00:57:34] I
[00:57:34] just
[00:57:34] need
[00:57:44] all
[00:57:44] she
[00:57:44] could
[00:57:44] think
[00:57:45] was
[00:57:45] don't
[00:57:45] pick
[00:57:46] this
[00:57:46] one
[00:57:46] don't
[00:57:47] pick
[00:57:47] this
[00:57:47] one
[00:57:47] as
[00:57:48] a
[00:57:48] shadow
[00:57:49] came
[00:57:49] between
[00:57:49] her
[00:57:49] and
[00:57:50] the
[00:57:50] sun
[00:57:51] to
[00:57:51] her
[00:57:51] relief
[00:57:52] he
[00:57:52] moved
[00:57:53] just
[00:57:53] past
[00:57:53] her
[00:57:53] to
[00:57:53] relieve
[00:57:54] himself
[00:57:54] the
[00:57:55] smell
[00:57:55] of
[00:57:55] ammonia
[00:57:56] filled
[00:57:56] the
[00:57:56] air
[00:57:56] but
[00:57:56] she
[00:57:57] stayed
[00:57:57] dry
[00:57:58] after
[00:57:59] a
[00:57:59] couple
[00:57:59] quick
[00:57:59] shakes
[00:58:00] the
[00:58:00] pair
[00:58:00] disappeared
[00:58:01] back
[00:58:01] into
[00:58:01] the
[00:58:01] building
[00:58:03] knowing
[00:58:03] an
[00:58:04] opportunity
[00:58:04] when
[00:58:04] it
[00:58:04] presented
[00:58:05] itself
[00:58:05] she
[00:58:06] slipped
[00:58:06] through
[00:58:06] the
[00:58:06] doorway
[00:58:06] behind
[00:58:07] him
[00:58:08] unlocking
[00:58:08] the
[00:58:08] door
[00:58:08] as
[00:58:09] she
[00:58:09] passed
[00:58:09] through
[00:58:11] she
[00:58:11] stood
[00:58:12] in a
[00:58:12] dim
[00:58:12] storeroom
[00:58:14] given
[00:58:14] the
[00:58:14] state
[00:58:14] of
[00:58:14] the
[00:58:15] linoleum
[00:58:15] floor
[00:58:15] and
[00:58:16] the
[00:58:16] must
[00:58:16] in
[00:58:16] the
[00:58:16] air
[00:58:16] she
[00:58:17] got
[00:58:17] the
[00:58:17] feeling
[00:58:17] not
[00:58:18] much
[00:58:18] happened
[00:58:18] in
[00:58:18] here
[00:58:19] stainless
[00:58:20] steel
[00:58:20] tables
[00:58:21] lined
[00:58:21] the
[00:58:21] walls
[00:58:22] most
[00:58:22] of
[00:58:22] them
[00:58:22] were
[00:58:23] bare
[00:58:23] but
[00:58:23] few
[00:58:24] had
[00:58:24] some
[00:58:24] cardboard
[00:58:25] boxes
[00:58:25] stacked
[00:58:25] on them
[00:58:26] thick
[00:58:27] layers
[00:58:27] of
[00:58:27] dust
[00:58:27] showed
[00:58:28] their
[00:58:28] age
[00:58:29] she
[00:58:30] waited
[00:58:30] until
[00:58:30] her
[00:58:30] eyes
[00:58:30] adjusted
[00:58:31] to
[00:58:31] the
[00:58:31] light
[00:58:31] before
[00:58:32] she
[00:58:32] began
[00:58:32] to
[00:58:32] explore
[00:58:33] keeping
[00:58:33] long
[00:58:33] the
[00:58:34] perimeter
[00:58:34] as
[00:58:34] to
[00:58:34] not
[00:58:34] let
[00:58:35] anyone
[00:58:35] sneak
[00:58:35] up
[00:58:35] behind
[00:58:36] her
[00:58:37] as
[00:58:37] she
[00:58:37] made
[00:58:38] it
[00:59:00] The
[00:59:00] room
[00:59:01] was
[00:59:01] crowded
[00:59:01] with
[00:59:01] a few
[00:59:01] dozen
[00:59:02] children
[00:59:02] ages
[00:59:03] ranging
[00:59:03] from
[00:59:03] approximately
[00:59:04] five
[00:59:04] or
[00:59:04] six
[00:59:05] to
[00:59:05] late
[00:59:05] teens
[00:59:07] divided
[00:59:07] into
[00:59:08] groups
[00:59:08] most
[00:59:08] of
[00:59:08] them
[00:59:09] seemed
[00:59:09] disinterested
[00:59:09] in what
[00:59:10] was going
[00:59:10] on
[00:59:10] near
[00:59:10] the
[00:59:11] front
[00:59:11] of
[00:59:11] the
[00:59:11] room
[00:59:12] metal
[00:59:12] cots
[00:59:13] arranged
[00:59:13] in
[00:59:13] neat
[00:59:14] aisles
[00:59:14] took
[00:59:14] up
[00:59:14] a
[00:59:14] majority
[00:59:15] of
[00:59:15] the
[00:59:15] space
[00:59:16] up
[00:59:17] front
[00:59:17] towering
[00:59:18] above
[00:59:18] her
[00:59:18] husband
[00:59:19] was
[00:59:19] the
[00:59:20] largest
[00:59:20] man
[00:59:20] she'd
[00:59:20] ever
[00:59:21] seen
[00:59:22] she
[00:59:23] clapped
[00:59:23] her
[00:59:23] hand
[00:59:23] over
[00:59:23] her
[00:59:24] mouth
[00:59:24] before
[00:59:24] she
[00:59:24] could
[00:59:24] cry
[00:59:24] out
[00:59:25] and
[00:59:26] retreated
[00:59:26] from
[00:59:26] the
[00:59:26] hall
[00:59:27] back
[00:59:27] into
[00:59:27] the
[00:59:27] shadows
[00:59:27] of
[00:59:27] the
[00:59:28] storeroom
[00:59:28] before
[00:59:28] she
[00:59:28] inadvertently
[00:59:29] gave
[00:59:29] up
[00:59:29] her
[00:59:29] position
[00:59:30] she
[00:59:31] pulled
[00:59:31] her
[00:59:31] phone
[00:59:31] from
[00:59:31] her
[00:59:32] pocket
[00:59:33] 911
[00:59:34] what's
[00:59:35] your
[00:59:35] emergency
[00:59:36] my
[00:59:36] husband
[00:59:37] has
[00:59:37] been
[00:59:37] abducted
[00:59:37] and
[00:59:37] I
[00:59:38] fear
[00:59:38] his
[00:59:38] life
[00:59:38] is
[00:59:38] in
[00:59:38] danger
[00:59:39] I
[00:59:40] only
[00:59:40] saw
[00:59:40] one
[00:59:40] adult
[00:59:41] but
[00:59:41] he
[00:59:41] is
[00:59:41] surrounded
[00:59:41] by
[00:59:42] children
[00:59:42] we're
[00:59:43] at the
[00:59:43] rest
[00:59:43] area
[00:59:43] on
[00:59:44] I-80
[00:59:44] eastbound
[00:59:45] right
[00:59:45] around
[00:59:45] mile
[00:59:45] post
[00:59:46] 100
[00:59:47] don't
[00:59:47] use
[00:59:47] sirens
[00:59:49] the
[00:59:49] employee
[00:59:49] entrance
[00:59:50] and
[00:59:50] back
[00:59:50] was
[00:59:50] unlocked
[00:59:51] when
[00:59:51] I
[00:59:51] came
[00:59:51] in
[00:59:52] please
[00:59:52] hurry
[00:59:54] she
[00:59:54] hung up
[00:59:54] before
[00:59:55] dispatch
[00:59:55] even
[00:59:55] had
[00:59:55] a
[00:59:55] chance
[00:59:56] to
[00:59:56] respond
[00:59:57] she
[00:59:57] looked
[00:59:58] around
[00:59:58] the
[00:59:58] room
[00:59:58] one
[00:59:58] more
[00:59:58] time
[00:59:59] and
[00:59:59] seeing
[00:59:59] no
[00:59:59] one
[00:59:59] approached
[01:00:00] the
[01:00:00] door
[01:00:00] the
[01:00:01] door
[01:00:05] one
[01:00:09] donned
[01:00:09] in
[01:00:09] a
[01:00:09] vintage
[01:00:10] Sean
[01:00:10] Kemp
[01:00:10] jersey
[01:00:11] they
[01:00:12] leered
[01:00:12] down
[01:00:12] at
[01:00:12] her
[01:00:13] with
[01:00:13] shit
[01:00:13] eating
[01:00:13] grins
[01:00:14] spread
[01:00:14] wide
[01:00:14] across
[01:00:14] their
[01:00:15] dirt
[01:00:15] covered
[01:00:15] faces
[01:00:17] well
[01:00:17] well
[01:00:17] well
[01:00:18] what do
[01:00:19] we have
[01:00:19] here
[01:00:21] she
[01:00:21] was
[01:00:21] yanked
[01:00:22] off
[01:00:22] her
[01:00:22] feet
[01:00:22] and
[01:00:22] dragged
[01:00:23] into
[01:00:23] the
[01:00:23] middle
[01:00:23] of the
[01:00:23] room
[01:00:23] now
[01:00:24] face
[01:00:24] to
[01:00:24] face
[01:00:24] with
[01:00:24] a
[01:00:25] man
[01:00:25] who
[01:00:25] should
[01:00:25] probably
[01:00:25] be
[01:00:25] out
[01:00:26] chasing
[01:00:26] Popeye
[01:00:39] he
[01:00:41] his
[01:00:41] eyes
[01:00:41] carried
[01:00:42] a
[01:00:42] wordless
[01:00:42] apology
[01:00:43] over
[01:00:43] to
[01:00:43] her
[01:00:43] before
[01:00:43] his
[01:00:44] head
[01:00:44] fell
[01:00:44] back
[01:00:44] to
[01:00:44] his
[01:00:44] chest
[01:00:46] her
[01:00:46] heart
[01:00:46] sank
[01:00:48] there's
[01:00:48] only
[01:00:48] one
[01:00:49] other
[01:00:49] time
[01:00:49] in
[01:00:49] her
[01:00:49] life
[01:00:50] she'd
[01:00:50] ever
[01:00:50] seen
[01:00:50] him
[01:00:50] so
[01:00:50] helpless
[01:00:53] overwhelmed
[01:00:53] with
[01:00:53] emotion
[01:00:54] her
[01:00:54] eyes
[01:00:54] searched
[01:00:54] the
[01:00:55] room
[01:00:55] for
[01:00:55] something
[01:00:55] to
[01:00:55] latch
[01:00:56] on
[01:00:56] to
[01:00:56] any
[01:00:57] possible
[01:00:57] glimmer
[01:00:57] of
[01:00:58] hope
[01:00:59] who
[01:00:59] she
[01:01:00] found
[01:01:00] sitting
[01:01:00] on
[01:01:00] a
[01:01:00] cot
[01:01:01] in
[01:01:01] the
[01:01:01] far
[01:01:01] corner
[01:01:01] of
[01:01:01] the
[01:01:01] room
[01:01:02] made
[01:01:02] her
[01:01:02] heart
[01:01:02] sink
[01:01:02] even
[01:01:03] lower
[01:01:05] see
[01:01:05] anything
[01:01:05] interesting
[01:01:06] barked
[01:01:07] the
[01:01:07] brute
[01:01:07] to
[01:01:07] her
[01:01:07] left
[01:01:08] but
[01:01:08] she
[01:01:08] barely
[01:01:09] noticed
[01:01:10] Angie
[01:01:12] is
[01:01:12] that
[01:01:12] you
[01:01:14] her
[01:01:14] husband
[01:01:15] stirred
[01:01:15] at
[01:01:15] the
[01:01:15] mention
[01:01:16] of
[01:01:16] the
[01:01:16] name
[01:01:17] Angie
[01:01:17] it's
[01:01:18] me
[01:01:18] Mrs.
[01:01:19] Wilkes
[01:01:20] your
[01:01:20] fifth
[01:01:21] grade
[01:01:21] teacher
[01:01:23] the
[01:01:23] whole
[01:01:24] room
[01:01:24] came
[01:01:24] to
[01:01:24] a
[01:01:24] stand
[01:01:24] still
[01:01:25] and
[01:01:25] all
[01:01:25] eyes
[01:01:25] fell
[01:01:26] somewhere
[01:01:26] between
[01:01:26] Angie
[01:01:27] and
[01:01:27] Margie
[01:01:28] Angie
[01:01:28] slowly
[01:01:29] raised
[01:01:29] her
[01:01:29] head
[01:01:29] to
[01:01:30] the
[01:01:30] latest
[01:01:30] visitor
[01:01:31] but
[01:01:31] her
[01:01:32] eyes
[01:01:32] dropped
[01:01:32] a
[01:01:32] moment
[01:01:32] later
[01:01:33] with
[01:01:33] no
[01:01:33] perceived
[01:01:33] emotion
[01:01:35] you
[01:01:36] used
[01:01:36] to
[01:01:36] have
[01:01:36] the
[01:01:36] biggest
[01:01:37] crush
[01:01:37] on
[01:01:37] David
[01:01:37] Duchovny
[01:01:38] remember
[01:01:39] you
[01:01:40] wore
[01:01:40] an
[01:01:40] X-Files
[01:01:40] t-shirt
[01:01:41] every
[01:01:41] day
[01:01:42] you
[01:01:42] wouldn't
[01:01:43] stop
[01:01:43] talking
[01:01:43] about
[01:01:43] him
[01:01:44] that
[01:01:44] is
[01:01:44] until
[01:01:45] I
[01:01:45] showed
[01:01:45] you
[01:01:45] a
[01:01:45] picture
[01:01:45] of
[01:01:45] him
[01:01:46] from
[01:01:46] Don't
[01:01:46] tell
[01:01:46] mom
[01:01:46] the
[01:01:46] babysitter
[01:01:47] is
[01:01:47] dead
[01:01:48] I
[01:01:48] guess
[01:01:56] that
[01:01:56] ignition
[01:01:57] Margie
[01:01:58] wasn't
[01:01:58] sure
[01:01:58] but
[01:01:59] she
[01:01:59] thought
[01:01:59] she
[01:02:00] saw
[01:02:00] a
[01:02:00] lone
[01:02:00] tear
[01:02:00] fall
[01:02:01] down
[01:02:01] her
[01:02:01] left
[01:02:01] cheek
[01:02:02] she
[01:02:03] scanned
[01:02:03] the
[01:02:03] room
[01:02:04] returning
[01:02:04] the
[01:02:05] stairs
[01:02:05] that
[01:02:05] followed
[01:02:05] her
[01:02:06] every
[01:02:06] movement
[01:02:07] she
[01:02:07] returned
[01:02:08] her
[01:02:08] attention
[01:02:08] back
[01:02:08] to
[01:02:08] Angie
[01:02:10] is
[01:02:10] one
[01:02:11] of
[01:02:11] these
[01:02:11] yours
[01:02:13] Angie
[01:02:13] nodded
[01:02:13] and
[01:02:14] slowly
[01:02:14] raised
[01:02:14] her
[01:02:14] handcuffed
[01:02:15] hands
[01:02:15] out
[01:02:15] in front
[01:02:15] of
[01:02:15] her
[01:02:16] a
[01:02:16] small
[01:02:17] girl
[01:02:17] of
[01:02:17] maybe
[01:02:17] eight
[01:02:18] or
[01:02:18] nine
[01:02:18] ran
[01:02:18] to
[01:02:18] her
[01:02:19] the
[01:02:20] hair
[01:02:20] that
[01:02:20] was
[01:02:20] present
[01:02:20] was
[01:02:21] sparse
[01:02:21] and
[01:02:26] her
[01:02:26] who
[01:02:26] winced
[01:02:27] in
[01:02:27] pain
[01:02:28] Angie
[01:02:28] carefully
[01:02:29] raised
[01:02:29] her
[01:02:29] hands
[01:02:29] and
[01:02:30] let
[01:02:30] the
[01:02:30] girl
[01:02:30] curl
[01:02:30] into
[01:02:31] her
[01:02:31] chest
[01:02:32] enough
[01:02:33] of
[01:02:33] this
[01:02:33] sentimental
[01:02:33] bullshit
[01:02:34] I've
[01:02:35] got
[01:02:35] things
[01:02:35] to
[01:02:35] do
[01:02:35] and
[01:02:36] I
[01:02:36] don't
[01:02:36] need
[01:02:36] remnants
[01:02:36] of
[01:02:37] your
[01:02:37] past
[01:02:37] creeping
[01:02:37] in
[01:02:38] the
[01:02:39] fact
[01:02:39] of the
[01:02:39] matter
[01:02:39] is
[01:02:40] you're
[01:02:40] with
[01:02:40] me
[01:02:41] now
[01:02:41] and
[01:02:41] nothing's
[01:02:42] going
[01:02:42] to
[01:02:42] change
[01:02:42] that
[01:02:43] Danny
[01:02:43] Adam
[01:02:45] the
[01:02:45] kid
[01:02:46] with
[01:02:46] the
[01:02:46] jersey
[01:02:46] and
[01:02:46] another
[01:02:47] boy
[01:02:47] around
[01:02:47] the
[01:02:47] same
[01:02:47] age
[01:02:48] obediently
[01:02:48] appeared
[01:02:48] next
[01:02:49] to
[01:02:49] the
[01:02:49] man
[01:02:50] why
[01:02:50] don't
[01:02:50] you
[01:02:50] set
[01:02:51] her
[01:02:51] up
[01:02:51] next
[01:02:51] to
[01:02:51] her
[01:02:51] husband
[01:02:52] while
[01:02:52] I
[01:02:52] figure
[01:02:52] out
[01:02:52] what
[01:02:52] in
[01:02:52] the
[01:02:52] hell
[01:02:53] we're
[01:02:53] going
[01:02:53] to
[01:02:53] do
[01:02:53] with
[01:02:53] him
[01:02:54] 17
[01:02:54] years
[01:02:55] of
[01:02:55] work
[01:02:55] down
[01:02:56] the
[01:02:56] drain
[01:02:56] because
[01:02:56] apparently
[01:02:57] we just
[01:02:57] let
[01:02:57] strangers
[01:02:58] wander
[01:02:58] in
[01:03:19] violence
[01:03:19] in
[01:03:19] an
[01:03:19] attempt
[01:03:20] to
[01:03:20] remedy
[01:03:20] the
[01:03:20] situation
[01:03:21] he
[01:03:22] squirmed
[01:03:22] and
[01:03:22] writhed
[01:03:23] around
[01:03:23] on
[01:03:23] the
[01:03:23] floor
[01:03:23] but
[01:03:24] not
[01:03:24] a
[01:03:24] single
[01:03:24] punch
[01:03:25] was
[01:03:25] thrown
[01:03:26] the
[01:03:26] hell's
[01:03:27] gotten
[01:03:27] into
[01:03:27] you
[01:03:27] get
[01:03:28] off
[01:03:28] of
[01:03:28] me
[01:03:29] just
[01:03:29] as
[01:03:30] he
[01:03:30] was
[01:03:30] able
[01:03:30] to
[01:03:30] get
[01:03:30] up
[01:03:30] to
[01:03:30] one
[01:03:31] knee
[01:03:31] a
[01:03:32] second
[01:03:32] wave
[01:03:32] of
[01:03:32] children
[01:03:32] sent
[01:03:33] him
[01:03:33] tumbling
[01:03:33] back
[01:03:33] to
[01:03:34] the
[01:03:34] concrete
[01:03:34] floor
[01:03:35] for
[01:03:36] a
[01:03:36] moment
[01:03:36] he
[01:03:36] was
[01:03:37] lost
[01:03:37] amongst
[01:03:37] a
[01:03:37] sea
[01:03:38] of
[01:03:38] adolescent
[01:03:38] appendages
[01:03:40] enough
[01:03:41] the
[01:03:42] power
[01:03:42] behind
[01:03:42] his
[01:03:43] voice
[01:03:43] was
[01:03:43] exactly
[01:03:43] what
[01:03:44] you
[01:03:44] would
[01:03:44] expect
[01:03:44] from
[01:03:44] a
[01:03:44] man
[01:03:45] his
[01:03:45] size
[01:03:45] and
[01:03:46] everyone
[01:03:46] Margie
[01:03:47] included
[01:03:47] stopped
[01:03:48] awestruck
[01:03:50] silence
[01:03:50] hung
[01:03:51] heavy
[01:03:51] in
[01:03:51] the
[01:03:51] room
[01:03:51] as
[01:03:52] they
[01:03:52] waited
[01:03:52] to
[01:03:52] see
[01:03:52] what
[01:03:53] he
[01:03:53] would
[01:03:53] do
[01:03:54] he
[01:03:54] turned
[01:03:55] in
[01:03:55] circles
[01:03:55] mean
[01:03:56] mugging
[01:03:56] the
[01:03:57] children
[01:03:57] all
[01:03:58] of
[01:03:58] whom
[01:03:58] were
[01:03:58] struggling
[01:03:59] to
[01:03:59] regain
[01:03:59] their
[01:03:59] breath
[01:03:59] after
[01:04:00] mounting
[01:04:00] their
[01:04:00] failed
[01:04:00] attack
[01:04:02] his
[01:04:02] face
[01:04:02] went
[01:04:03] scarlet
[01:04:03] and
[01:04:03] his
[01:04:03] chest
[01:04:04] heaved
[01:04:04] in
[01:04:04] anger
[01:04:05] he
[01:04:06] opened
[01:04:06] his
[01:04:06] mouth
[01:04:06] and
[01:04:06] what
[01:04:06] came
[01:04:07] out
[01:04:07] was
[01:04:07] somewhere
[01:04:07] between
[01:04:07] a
[01:04:08] scream
[01:04:08] and
[01:04:09] a
[01:04:09] roar
[01:04:10] before
[01:04:10] he
[01:04:10] could
[01:04:10] muster
[01:04:11] anything
[01:04:11] intelligible
[01:04:12] the
[01:04:13] sound
[01:04:13] of a
[01:04:13] dozen
[01:04:13] semi
[01:04:14] automatics
[01:04:14] being
[01:04:14] wrecked
[01:04:15] echoed
[01:04:15] off
[01:04:15] the
[01:04:15] walls
[01:04:17] police
[01:04:18] stay
[01:04:18] where
[01:04:18] you
[01:04:19] are
[01:04:19] keep
[01:04:19] your
[01:04:19] hands
[01:04:20] in
[01:04:20] the
[01:04:20] air
[01:04:20] the
[01:04:22] next
[01:04:23] few
[01:04:23] hours
[01:04:23] were
[01:04:23] a
[01:04:23] blur
[01:04:23] for
[01:04:24] Margie
[01:04:25] her
[01:04:25] husband
[01:04:25] was
[01:04:25] relatively
[01:04:26] fine
[01:04:26] after
[01:04:27] getting
[01:04:27] some
[01:04:27] fluids
[01:04:27] and
[01:04:28] mild
[01:04:28] painkillers
[01:04:28] from
[01:04:29] the
[01:04:29] paramedics
[01:04:29] he
[01:04:30] was
[01:04:30] banged
[01:04:30] up
[01:04:30] and
[01:04:31] bruised
[01:04:31] but
[01:04:31] he'd
[01:04:32] recover
[01:04:32] in
[01:04:33] no
[01:04:33] time
[01:04:34] while
[01:04:34] he
[01:04:35] was
[01:04:35] being
[01:04:35] tended
[01:04:35] to
[01:04:35] Margie
[01:04:36] went from
[01:04:37] child
[01:04:37] to
[01:04:37] child
[01:04:37] letting
[01:04:38] them
[01:04:38] use
[01:04:38] her
[01:04:38] cell
[01:04:39] phone
[01:04:39] to
[01:04:39] call
[01:04:39] their
[01:04:39] parents
[01:04:41] Angie
[01:04:41] was
[01:04:41] the
[01:04:41] last
[01:04:42] one
[01:04:42] to
[01:04:42] make
[01:04:42] the
[01:04:42] call
[01:04:44] she
[01:04:44] didn't
[01:04:44] say
[01:04:44] much
[01:04:45] to
[01:04:45] Margie
[01:04:45] but
[01:04:45] after
[01:04:46] hanging
[01:04:46] up
[01:04:47] the
[01:04:47] phone
[01:04:47] she
[01:04:47] allowed
[01:04:47] herself
[01:04:48] to
[01:04:48] be
[01:04:48] pulled
[01:04:48] in
[01:04:48] for
[01:04:48] a
[01:04:49] hug
[01:04:50] then
[01:04:50] she
[01:04:50] returned
[01:04:51] to
[01:04:51] her
[01:04:51] daughter
[01:04:52] her
[01:04:53] husband
[01:04:53] returned
[01:04:53] to her
[01:04:54] side
[01:04:54] and
[01:04:54] they
[01:04:54] waited
[01:04:54] together
[01:04:55] until
[01:04:55] every
[01:04:55] last
[01:04:55] child
[01:04:56] was
[01:04:56] picked
[01:04:56] up
[01:04:58] at
[01:04:58] one
[01:04:58] point
[01:04:58] she
[01:04:59] found
[01:04:59] him
[01:05:00] gazing
[01:05:00] at
[01:05:00] the
[01:05:00] sticker
[01:05:00] on
[01:05:01] the
[01:05:01] back
[01:05:01] of
[01:05:01] his
[01:05:01] trailer
[01:05:02] he
[01:05:03] looked
[01:05:03] like
[01:05:03] a
[01:05:03] man
[01:05:03] who
[01:05:03] was
[01:05:04] barely
[01:05:04] hanging
[01:05:04] on
[01:05:04] by
[01:05:05] a
[01:05:05] thread
[01:05:06] she
[01:05:06] had
[01:05:07] learned
[01:05:07] a
[01:05:07] long
[01:05:07] time
[01:05:07] ago
[01:05:07] to
[01:05:08] let
[01:05:08] him
[01:05:08] have
[01:05:08] these
[01:05:08] moments
[01:05:09] when
[01:05:09] he
[01:05:09] needed
[01:05:09] them
[01:05:10] but
[01:05:10] she
[01:05:10] interrupted
[01:05:11] this
[01:05:11] one
[01:05:11] as
[01:05:11] Angie's
[01:05:12] ride
[01:05:12] arrived
[01:05:13] gently
[01:05:13] nudging
[01:05:14] his
[01:05:14] head
[01:05:14] toward
[01:05:14] a
[01:05:14] blue
[01:05:14] Toyota
[01:05:15] as
[01:05:15] it
[01:05:29] pulled
[01:05:29] lot
[01:05:30] and
[01:05:30] neither
[01:05:30] of
[01:05:31] them
[01:05:31] could
[01:05:31] have
[01:05:31] missed
[01:05:31] the
[01:05:31] obvious
[01:05:32] choice
[01:05:32] she
[01:05:32] pulled
[01:05:32] her
[01:05:32] granddaughter
[01:05:33] into
[01:05:33] her
[01:05:33] arms
[01:05:35] after
[01:05:35] the
[01:05:35] tears
[01:05:36] had
[01:05:36] run
[01:05:36] out
[01:05:37] the
[01:05:37] trio
[01:05:37] climbed
[01:05:38] into
[01:05:38] the
[01:05:38] car
[01:05:38] and
[01:05:38] took
[01:05:38] off
[01:05:38] together
[01:05:39] as
[01:05:39] a
[01:05:39] family
[01:05:39] reunited
[01:05:42] Margie
[01:05:42] dried
[01:05:42] her
[01:05:42] eyes
[01:05:43] first
[01:05:43] then
[01:05:44] her
[01:05:44] husband
[01:05:46] you
[01:05:46] know
[01:05:47] we
[01:05:47] lost
[01:05:48] our
[01:05:48] Angie
[01:05:49] and
[01:05:49] I
[01:05:49] miss
[01:05:49] her
[01:05:50] dearly
[01:05:51] but
[01:05:51] I'm
[01:05:51] really
[01:05:52] glad
[01:05:52] she
[01:05:52] didn't
[01:05:52] lose
[01:05:52] hers
[01:05:53] and
[01:05:55] that's
[01:05:55] it
[01:05:57] okay
[01:05:57] I
[01:05:58] was
[01:05:59] hoping
[01:06:00] you'd
[01:06:00] end
[01:06:00] on a
[01:06:01] positive
[01:06:01] note
[01:06:01] but
[01:06:02] wasn't
[01:06:02] convinced
[01:06:03] that
[01:06:03] you
[01:06:03] would
[01:06:04] I
[01:06:05] thought
[01:06:05] we'd
[01:06:05] get
[01:06:05] a
[01:06:06] typical
[01:06:06] Matt
[01:06:06] ending
[01:06:06] maybe
[01:06:07] yeah
[01:06:08] I
[01:06:08] was
[01:06:08] I
[01:06:09] don't
[01:06:09] think
[01:06:09] I
[01:06:25] and
[01:06:26] brute
[01:06:26] barking
[01:06:27] barking
[01:06:27] brood
[01:06:28] something
[01:06:28] like
[01:06:28] that
[01:06:29] I
[01:06:30] like
[01:06:30] those
[01:06:31] lines
[01:06:32] I
[01:06:33] think
[01:06:33] your
[01:06:33] pacing
[01:06:34] was
[01:06:34] good
[01:06:35] and
[01:06:35] that
[01:06:35] sort
[01:06:35] of
[01:06:36] thing
[01:06:36] you've
[01:06:36] got
[01:06:36] like
[01:06:37] the
[01:06:38] you
[01:06:38] know
[01:06:38] Margie
[01:06:38] is
[01:06:39] like
[01:06:39] a
[01:06:39] resourceful
[01:06:40] kind
[01:06:40] of
[01:06:40] a
[01:06:40] character
[01:06:43] which
[01:06:44] was
[01:06:44] sort
[01:06:45] of
[01:06:45] the
[01:06:45] catalyst
[01:06:46] you need
[01:06:46] to make
[01:06:46] things
[01:06:47] happen
[01:06:48] you know
[01:06:48] in what
[01:06:49] looks like
[01:06:49] a
[01:06:49] hopeless
[01:06:49] situation
[01:06:50] sure
[01:06:51] the
[01:06:52] one
[01:06:52] thing
[01:06:52] that
[01:06:52] I
[01:06:52] was
[01:06:52] hoping
[01:06:53] to
[01:06:53] get
[01:06:53] that
[01:06:54] maybe
[01:06:55] I
[01:06:55] just
[01:06:55] didn't
[01:06:55] pick
[01:06:55] up
[01:06:56] on
[01:06:56] something
[01:06:56] but
[01:06:57] was
[01:06:57] maybe
[01:06:57] an
[01:06:58] explanation
[01:06:58] of
[01:06:58] what
[01:06:59] what
[01:07:00] the
[01:07:00] bad
[01:07:00] guys
[01:07:00] were
[01:07:00] up
[01:07:00] to
[01:07:01] like
[01:07:01] what
[01:07:01] was
[01:07:01] their
[01:07:02] operation
[01:07:02] you know
[01:07:03] what
[01:07:03] I mean
[01:07:03] yeah
[01:07:04] I
[01:07:19] in
[01:07:20] my
[01:07:20] mind
[01:07:21] like
[01:07:21] if
[01:07:21] I
[01:07:21] was
[01:07:21] going
[01:07:21] to
[01:07:22] develop
[01:07:22] this
[01:07:22] further
[01:07:23] which
[01:07:24] at
[01:07:24] right
[01:07:24] at
[01:07:25] this
[01:07:25] point
[01:07:25] I
[01:07:25] have
[01:07:26] no
[01:07:26] intention
[01:07:26] to
[01:07:26] do
[01:07:26] so
[01:07:27] but
[01:07:28] I
[01:07:28] was
[01:07:28] thinking
[01:07:29] it
[01:07:29] was
[01:07:29] some
[01:07:30] sort
[01:07:30] of
[01:07:30] like
[01:07:31] lot
[01:07:32] lizard
[01:07:32] kind
[01:07:32] of
[01:07:33] thing
[01:07:33] like
[01:07:34] he
[01:07:34] was
[01:07:34] kind
[01:07:34] of
[01:07:35] like
[01:07:35] the
[01:07:36] big
[01:07:36] guy
[01:07:37] was
[01:07:37] almost
[01:07:37] like
[01:07:38] a
[01:07:38] pimp
[01:07:39] and
[01:07:40] like
[01:07:41] Angie
[01:07:42] would be
[01:07:43] his
[01:07:43] main
[01:07:44] whore
[01:07:44] or
[01:07:45] whatever
[01:07:45] you know
[01:07:45] and
[01:07:45] there's
[01:07:46] probably
[01:07:46] others
[01:07:46] out
[01:07:46] there
[01:07:47] and
[01:07:47] these
[01:07:47] are
[01:07:47] the
[01:07:48] kids
[01:07:48] of
[01:07:49] the
[01:07:49] lot
[01:07:49] lizards
[01:07:50] that
[01:07:50] he's
[01:07:51] like
[01:07:52] kind
[01:07:52] of
[01:07:53] under
[01:07:53] his
[01:07:54] employee
[01:07:54] if
[01:07:54] you
[01:07:54] will
[01:07:55] yeah
[01:07:56] so
[01:07:56] you
[01:07:57] know
[01:07:57] I
[01:07:57] maybe
[01:07:58] even
[01:07:59] want
[01:07:59] to
[01:07:59] take
[01:07:59] back
[01:08:00] what
[01:08:00] I
[01:08:00] said
[01:08:00] then
[01:08:00] because
[01:08:00] I
[01:08:01] think
[01:08:01] in
[01:08:01] some
[01:08:01] sense
[01:08:01] it
[01:08:02] works
[01:08:03] without
[01:08:03] you
[01:08:04] having
[01:08:04] to
[01:08:04] explain
[01:08:05] things
[01:08:06] you
[01:08:06] know
[01:08:06] what
[01:08:17] came
[01:08:18] into
[01:08:18] this
[01:08:18] story
[01:08:19] like
[01:08:19] I
[01:08:19] knew
[01:08:20] that
[01:08:20] I
[01:08:20] wanted
[01:08:20] the
[01:08:21] wife
[01:08:21] to
[01:08:21] be
[01:08:23] the
[01:08:23] protagonist
[01:08:24] of
[01:08:24] the
[01:08:24] third
[01:08:24] part
[01:08:25] because
[01:08:25] like
[01:08:25] he's
[01:08:25] helpless
[01:08:26] and
[01:08:27] like
[01:08:27] right
[01:08:28] I
[01:08:28] just
[01:08:29] don't
[01:08:29] feel
[01:08:29] like
[01:08:30] having
[01:08:31] some
[01:08:31] guy
[01:08:31] like
[01:08:32] just
[01:08:32] two
[01:08:32] guys
[01:08:33] fight
[01:08:34] essentially
[01:08:34] I
[01:08:35] don't
[01:08:36] think
[01:08:36] there's
[01:08:36] anything
[01:08:36] like
[01:08:36] new
[01:08:37] or
[01:08:37] you
[01:08:38] know
[01:08:39] really
[01:08:40] all
[01:08:40] that
[01:08:40] intriguing
[01:08:41] about
[01:08:41] that
[01:08:41] it's
[01:08:42] just
[01:08:42] like
[01:08:42] a couple
[01:08:42] guys
[01:08:43] fighting
[01:08:43] you
[01:08:43] know
[01:08:43] what
[01:08:43] I
[01:08:43] mean
[01:08:43] well
[01:08:44] you'd
[01:08:45] have
[01:08:45] to
[01:08:45] do
[01:08:45] something
[01:08:45] contrived
[01:08:46] to get
[01:08:46] him out
[01:08:47] of his
[01:08:47] you know
[01:08:48] out of
[01:08:48] a
[01:08:48] situation
[01:08:48] right
[01:08:49] like
[01:08:49] something
[01:08:50] crazy
[01:08:51] would have
[01:08:51] had to
[01:08:51] happen
[01:08:52] and
[01:08:52] like
[01:08:53] you know
[01:08:54] it's
[01:08:54] hard
[01:08:54] because
[01:08:55] I
[01:08:55] think
[01:08:55] that
[01:09:10] I
[01:09:11] you know
[01:09:11] the
[01:09:12] idea
[01:09:13] I
[01:09:13] never
[01:09:14] made
[01:09:14] the
[01:09:14] connection
[01:09:14] that
[01:09:15] like
[01:09:15] maybe
[01:09:15] the
[01:09:15] kids
[01:09:15] could
[01:09:15] help
[01:09:16] him
[01:09:16] or
[01:09:16] anything
[01:09:16] like
[01:09:16] this
[01:09:16] guy
[01:09:17] is
[01:09:17] on
[01:09:17] his
[01:09:17] own
[01:09:17] so
[01:09:18] he
[01:09:18] needed
[01:09:18] somebody
[01:09:19] from
[01:09:19] the
[01:09:19] outside
[01:09:19] to
[01:09:19] come
[01:09:20] in
[01:09:23] most
[01:09:23] of
[01:09:23] this
[01:09:24] story
[01:09:25] came out
[01:09:25] while
[01:09:25] I
[01:09:25] was
[01:09:25] writing
[01:09:26] though
[01:09:26] I
[01:09:27] knew
[01:09:27] that
[01:09:27] I
[01:09:28] was
[01:09:29] going
[01:09:29] to
[01:09:29] start
[01:09:29] the
[01:09:29] story
[01:09:29] with
[01:09:30] her
[01:09:30] on
[01:09:30] her
[01:09:31] way
[01:09:31] like
[01:09:31] in
[01:09:31] the
[01:09:31] car
[01:09:33] and
[01:09:33] everything
[01:09:33] else
[01:09:34] kind
[01:09:34] of
[01:09:34] developed
[01:09:34] naturally
[01:09:35] what's
[01:09:36] kind
[01:09:36] of
[01:09:57] I
[01:09:57] wrote
[01:09:57] this
[01:09:58] entire
[01:09:58] story
[01:09:59] and
[01:09:59] never
[01:09:59] put
[01:09:59] the
[01:10:00] prompt
[01:10:00] in
[01:10:00] it
[01:10:01] so
[01:10:01] I
[01:10:01] texted
[01:10:02] you
[01:10:02] and
[01:10:02] I
[01:10:02] was
[01:10:02] like
[01:10:15] oh
[01:10:16] shit
[01:10:17] I
[01:10:28] a
[01:10:28] convenience
[01:10:29] kind
[01:10:29] of
[01:10:29] thing
[01:10:29] just
[01:10:29] like
[01:10:30] but
[01:10:31] I
[01:10:32] was
[01:10:32] sitting
[01:10:32] there
[01:10:32] and
[01:10:32] I
[01:10:33] couldn't
[01:10:33] figure
[01:10:33] out
[01:10:33] like
[01:10:34] there
[01:10:34] was
[01:10:34] nothing
[01:10:35] in
[01:10:35] this
[01:10:36] damn
[01:10:36] story
[01:10:36] where
[01:10:37] I
[01:10:37] could
[01:10:37] put
[01:10:37] just
[01:10:38] don't
[01:10:38] pick
[01:10:39] this
[01:10:39] one
[01:10:39] or
[01:10:39] whatever
[01:10:40] and
[01:10:41] I
[01:10:41] spent
[01:10:42] probably
[01:10:43] 45
[01:10:44] minutes
[01:10:44] googling
[01:10:45] bumper
[01:10:46] stickers
[01:10:46] because
[01:10:47] I
[01:10:47] was
[01:10:47] like
[01:10:48] maybe
[01:10:48] there's
[01:10:48] a
[01:10:49] bumper
[01:10:49] sticker
[01:10:50] that
[01:10:50] I
[01:10:50] could
[01:10:50] put
[01:10:51] on
[01:10:51] the
[01:10:51] back
[01:10:51] of
[01:10:51] his
[01:10:51] truck
[01:10:52] like
[01:10:52] around
[01:10:52] the
[01:10:52] other
[01:10:53] one
[01:10:53] and
[01:10:53] it's
[01:10:53] just
[01:10:53] like
[01:10:54] kind
[01:10:54] of
[01:10:54] like
[01:10:54] a
[01:10:54] throwaway
[01:10:54] thing
[01:10:55] and
[01:10:56] then
[01:10:56] I
[01:10:56] went
[01:10:56] back
[01:10:56] to
[01:10:56] our
[01:10:56] old
[01:10:57] prompts
[01:10:57] and
[01:10:57] I
[01:11:19] this
[01:11:20] and
[01:11:20] then
[01:11:20] run
[01:11:21] back
[01:11:21] in
[01:11:21] quick
[01:11:22] quick
[01:11:22] thinking
[01:11:22] on
[01:11:23] Matt's
[01:11:23] part
[01:11:23] I
[01:11:23] guess
[01:11:24] yeah
[01:11:25] it
[01:11:25] worked
[01:11:25] it
[01:11:25] it
[01:11:26] didn't
[01:11:26] read
[01:11:27] or
[01:11:27] hear
[01:11:27] listen
[01:11:28] like
[01:11:28] you know
[01:11:30] something
[01:11:30] that was
[01:11:30] cobbled
[01:11:31] together
[01:11:31] at the
[01:11:31] last
[01:11:31] minute
[01:11:32] it
[01:11:32] it
[01:11:32] flowed
[01:11:33] naturally
[01:11:33] as part
[01:11:33] of
[01:11:34] the
[01:11:34] story
[01:11:34] I
[01:11:35] was
[01:11:35] afraid
[01:11:35] it
[01:11:35] was
[01:11:35] going
[01:11:35] to
[01:11:36] sound
[01:11:36] like
[01:11:36] shoehorned
[01:11:37] in
[01:11:37] and
[01:11:37] I
[01:11:38] was
[01:11:38] really
[01:11:38] worried
[01:11:39] so
[01:11:39] no
[01:11:39] I
[01:11:39] didn't
[01:11:40] I
[01:11:40] didn't
[01:11:40] think
[01:11:41] so
[01:11:41] so
[01:11:41] back
[01:11:42] to
[01:11:42] what
[01:11:43] I
[01:11:43] said
[01:11:43] about
[01:11:45] the
[01:11:45] drink
[01:11:45] from
[01:11:45] the
[01:11:46] bottle
[01:11:46] thing
[01:11:46] okay
[01:11:47] so
[01:11:47] I
[01:11:47] made
[01:11:48] the
[01:11:49] wife's
[01:11:49] name
[01:11:50] Margie
[01:11:50] and
[01:11:51] there's
[01:11:52] a movie
[01:11:52] that I
[01:11:53] discovered
[01:11:53] in
[01:11:54] when I
[01:11:54] was
[01:11:55] in
[01:11:55] a
[01:11:55] film
[01:11:55] class
[01:11:56] called
[01:11:56] Double
[01:11:56] Indemnity
[01:11:57] from
[01:11:58] I
[01:11:58] think
[01:11:58] it's
[01:11:58] the
[01:11:58] 40s
[01:11:59] I'll
[01:11:59] put
[01:11:59] a
[01:11:59] link
[01:12:00] in
[01:12:01] the
[01:12:01] show
[01:12:01] notes
[01:12:01] let me
[01:12:01] get
[01:12:01] you
[01:12:02] an
[01:12:03] actual
[01:12:03] date
[01:12:05] 1944
[01:12:06] it's
[01:12:07] literally
[01:12:07] one of
[01:12:08] my
[01:12:08] favorite
[01:12:08] movies
[01:12:09] of all
[01:12:09] time
[01:12:09] like
[01:12:09] I
[01:12:09] watch
[01:12:10] it
[01:12:10] at
[01:12:10] least
[01:12:11] once
[01:12:11] a
[01:12:11] month
[01:12:11] I
[01:12:11] love
[01:12:12] it
[01:12:12] I
[01:12:12] love
[01:12:13] everything
[01:12:13] about
[01:12:13] it
[01:12:13] it's
[01:12:13] like
[01:12:13] classic
[01:12:14] film
[01:12:14] noir
[01:12:15] it
[01:12:16] stars
[01:12:16] Fred
[01:12:16] McMurray
[01:12:17] famous
[01:12:18] from
[01:12:18] My
[01:12:18] Three
[01:12:19] Sons
[01:12:20] Barbara
[01:12:21] Stanwyck
[01:12:21] who was
[01:12:22] huge
[01:12:22] back in
[01:12:23] those
[01:12:23] days
[01:12:23] and
[01:12:23] Edward
[01:12:24] G.
[01:12:24] Robinson
[01:12:24] who was
[01:12:25] huge
[01:12:25] in
[01:12:25] the
[01:12:25] film
[01:12:26] noir
[01:12:27] genre
[01:12:28] it
[01:12:29] was
[01:12:29] written
[01:12:30] by
[01:12:30] Billy
[01:12:30] Wilder
[01:12:33] it's
[01:12:34] blockbuster
[01:12:35] of a
[01:12:35] movie
[01:12:35] from
[01:12:36] 1944
[01:12:36] that
[01:12:37] you
[01:12:37] could
[01:12:37] have
[01:12:38] and
[01:12:38] I
[01:12:38] love
[01:12:38] everything
[01:12:39] about
[01:12:39] it
[01:12:39] but
[01:12:40] there's
[01:12:41] this
[01:12:42] little
[01:12:42] scene
[01:12:43] where
[01:12:43] Fred
[01:12:43] McMurray
[01:12:44] is
[01:12:44] talking
[01:12:44] to
[01:12:44] Barbara
[01:12:45] Stanwyck
[01:12:45] and
[01:12:47] they're
[01:12:47] like
[01:12:48] they don't
[01:12:49] want to
[01:12:50] reveal names
[01:12:50] so he's
[01:12:51] like
[01:12:51] oh
[01:12:53] sounds
[01:12:54] good
[01:12:54] Margie
[01:12:54] you know
[01:12:55] it just
[01:12:55] comes up
[01:12:55] like that
[01:12:56] so I
[01:12:56] just used
[01:12:56] Margie
[01:12:57] from
[01:12:57] that
[01:12:57] but
[01:12:58] after
[01:12:58] that
[01:12:58] conversation
[01:12:59] ends
[01:13:00] Edward
[01:13:01] G.
[01:13:01] Robinson's
[01:13:01] character
[01:13:02] goes
[01:13:02] Margie
[01:13:03] sounds
[01:13:03] like she
[01:13:04] drinks
[01:13:04] from
[01:13:04] the
[01:13:04] bottle
[01:13:05] so
[01:13:06] I
[01:13:06] just
[01:13:06] thought
[01:13:06] it was
[01:13:07] funny
[01:13:07] because
[01:13:08] I
[01:13:08] picked
[01:13:08] Margie
[01:13:09] and
[01:13:09] it's
[01:13:09] literally
[01:13:10] just
[01:13:10] kind
[01:13:10] of
[01:13:10] throw
[01:13:11] away
[01:13:11] name
[01:13:12] in the
[01:13:12] scene
[01:13:12] but
[01:13:12] in your
[01:13:13] story
[01:13:13] it's
[01:13:13] like
[01:13:13] drink
[01:13:13] for
[01:13:14] the
[01:13:14] bottle
[01:13:14] and
[01:13:14] I
[01:13:14] was
[01:13:14] like
[01:13:15] oh
[01:13:15] Barchi drinks
[01:13:15] for the
[01:13:15] bottle
[01:13:16] it just
[01:13:16] made me
[01:13:16] laugh
[01:13:16] yeah
[01:13:17] that's
[01:13:17] kind
[01:13:17] of
[01:13:17] funny
[01:13:31] it
[01:13:40] hated
[01:13:40] hated
[01:13:41] especially
[01:13:42] if
[01:13:42] they
[01:13:42] were
[01:13:42] black
[01:13:42] and
[01:13:42] white
[01:13:43] I
[01:13:43] was
[01:13:43] like
[01:13:44] another
[01:13:44] black
[01:13:44] and
[01:13:45] white
[01:13:45] movie
[01:13:45] you
[01:13:45] know
[01:13:45] like
[01:13:45] you're
[01:13:46] like
[01:13:46] seven
[01:13:46] years
[01:13:46] old
[01:13:47] and
[01:13:49] like
[01:13:49] I
[01:13:49] just
[01:13:49] remember
[01:13:50] there
[01:14:03] was
[01:14:10] wondering
[01:14:10] if
[01:14:10] it's
[01:14:10] going to
[01:14:10] be
[01:14:10] like
[01:14:11] sort
[01:14:11] of
[01:14:11] it
[01:14:12] was
[01:14:12] kind
[01:14:12] of
[01:14:12] noir
[01:14:12] ish
[01:14:14] and
[01:14:15] I
[01:14:16] rewatched
[01:14:17] it
[01:14:17] recently
[01:14:18] I mean
[01:14:18] not like
[01:14:20] recently
[01:14:20] recently
[01:14:21] but within
[01:14:21] the past
[01:14:22] five years
[01:14:22] probably
[01:14:25] yeah
[01:14:25] this one
[01:14:27] doesn't look
[01:14:27] like it's
[01:14:28] streaming
[01:14:28] anywhere
[01:14:28] but it's
[01:14:29] like you
[01:14:29] can run
[01:14:30] it on
[01:14:30] prime
[01:14:30] or
[01:14:31] or
[01:14:32] whatever
[01:14:32] I
[01:14:33] bought
[01:14:33] it
[01:14:33] on
[01:14:33] Apple
[01:14:34] TV
[01:14:34] oh
[01:14:34] dead
[01:14:34] dead
[01:14:35] reckoning
[01:14:35] that's
[01:14:35] what
[01:14:36] it was
[01:14:37] yeah
[01:14:39] do I
[01:14:39] need to
[01:14:39] add this
[01:14:40] to my
[01:14:40] list
[01:14:40] I think
[01:14:40] I do
[01:14:41] I think
[01:14:42] it's worth
[01:14:42] watching
[01:14:43] it was
[01:14:43] pretty good
[01:14:44] 1946
[01:14:44] Humphrey
[01:14:45] Bogart
[01:14:45] it's
[01:14:46] very
[01:14:47] noirish
[01:14:49] oh
[01:14:50] it's
[01:14:50] on
[01:14:50] Tubi
[01:14:51] I might
[01:14:51] watch this
[01:14:52] shit
[01:14:52] tonight
[01:14:53] oh
[01:14:53] there you
[01:14:54] go
[01:14:55] if I
[01:14:55] don't
[01:14:55] watch
[01:14:55] Double
[01:14:56] and
[01:14:56] Demony
[01:14:56] because
[01:14:57] now
[01:14:57] I'm
[01:14:57] thinking
[01:14:57] about
[01:14:57] it
[01:14:57] dead
[01:14:58] reckoning
[01:14:58] I'm
[01:14:58] going to
[01:14:58] put
[01:14:58] this
[01:14:59] in the
[01:14:59] link
[01:14:59] in the
[01:14:59] show
[01:15:00] notes
[01:15:00] too
[01:15:00] yeah
[01:15:01] but so
[01:15:01] it
[01:15:02] was
[01:15:02] that
[01:15:02] point
[01:15:02] forward
[01:15:02] where I
[01:15:03] kind of
[01:15:03] changed
[01:15:03] my opinion
[01:15:04] about old
[01:15:04] films
[01:15:05] as you
[01:15:05] know
[01:15:06] an eight
[01:15:06] year old
[01:15:07] I
[01:15:07] kind of
[01:15:09] had the
[01:15:09] same
[01:15:09] thing
[01:15:09] like I
[01:15:10] didn't
[01:15:10] really
[01:15:10] appreciate
[01:15:11] old
[01:15:11] movies
[01:15:11] until
[01:15:12] I
[01:15:12] went
[01:15:12] back
[01:15:13] to
[01:15:13] school
[01:15:13] and
[01:15:13] started
[01:15:14] like
[01:15:14] the
[01:15:14] film
[01:15:15] appreciation
[01:15:15] and
[01:15:15] stuff
[01:15:16] like
[01:15:16] that
[01:15:16] and
[01:15:16] really
[01:15:16] started
[01:15:16] watching
[01:15:17] it
[01:15:18] and
[01:15:18] I
[01:15:18] think
[01:15:18] just
[01:15:19] from
[01:15:19] a
[01:15:19] technical
[01:15:19] standpoint
[01:15:20] too
[01:15:20] thinking
[01:15:21] about
[01:15:21] what
[01:15:21] these
[01:15:21] guys
[01:15:22] were
[01:15:22] doing
[01:15:22] with
[01:15:22] black
[01:15:23] and
[01:15:23] white
[01:15:23] film
[01:15:23] back
[01:15:23] in
[01:15:24] the
[01:15:24] day
[01:15:24] no
[01:15:24] computers
[01:15:25] no
[01:15:25] anything
[01:15:26] right
[01:15:26] yeah
[01:15:27] as an
[01:15:28] adult
[01:15:28] I can
[01:15:28] appreciate
[01:15:29] it
[01:15:29] but
[01:15:29] as
[01:15:29] a
[01:15:29] kid
[01:15:31] if
[01:15:31] it
[01:15:31] just
[01:15:32] you
[01:15:32] know
[01:15:32] it
[01:15:32] feels
[01:15:32] old
[01:15:33] fashioned
[01:15:33] like
[01:15:33] it's
[01:15:34] in
[01:15:34] black
[01:15:34] and
[01:15:34] white
[01:15:43] like
[01:15:43] I saw
[01:15:44] it
[01:15:45] I saw
[01:15:45] it
[01:15:45] in the
[01:15:46] theater
[01:15:46] a few
[01:15:46] years
[01:15:47] ago
[01:15:47] because
[01:15:49] AMC
[01:15:49] does
[01:15:49] these
[01:15:50] classics
[01:15:50] every
[01:15:50] once
[01:15:51] in a
[01:15:51] while
[01:15:51] where
[01:15:51] they
[01:15:51] throw
[01:15:51] old
[01:15:52] movies
[01:15:52] and
[01:15:52] like
[01:15:53] it
[01:15:53] was
[01:15:53] it
[01:15:54] was
[01:15:54] like
[01:15:54] the
[01:15:54] best
[01:15:54] day
[01:15:54] ever
[01:15:55] because
[01:15:55] I
[01:15:55] got
[01:15:56] to
[01:15:56] see
[01:15:56] this
[01:15:56] on
[01:15:56] the
[01:15:56] big
[01:15:56] screen
[01:15:57] it
[01:15:57] was
[01:15:57] phenomenal
[01:15:58] yeah
[01:15:58] that's
[01:15:58] pretty
[01:15:58] cool
[01:15:58] the
[01:15:59] only
[01:15:59] the
[01:16:00] only
[01:16:00] day
[01:16:00] that
[01:16:00] was
[01:16:00] better
[01:16:01] than
[01:16:01] that
[01:16:01] was
[01:16:01] when
[01:16:01] I
[01:16:02] went
[01:16:02] and
[01:16:02] I
[01:16:02] saw
[01:16:02] a
[01:16:02] double
[01:16:03] feature
[01:16:04] it
[01:16:04] was
[01:16:05] great
[01:16:05] because
[01:16:05] I
[01:16:05] was
[01:16:05] by
[01:16:05] myself
[01:16:06] in
[01:16:06] the
[01:16:06] theater
[01:16:06] there
[01:16:06] was
[01:16:06] only
[01:16:07] four
[01:16:07] other
[01:16:07] people
[01:16:07] in
[01:16:07] the
[01:16:08] theater
[01:16:08] but
[01:16:09] it
[01:16:09] was
[01:16:09] a
[01:16:09] double
[01:16:09] feature
[01:16:10] of
[01:16:10] Frankenstein
[01:16:10] and
[01:16:11] Dracula
[01:16:11] like
[01:16:11] the
[01:16:12] 30s
[01:16:12] from
[01:16:13] the
[01:16:13] 30s
[01:16:14] it
[01:16:14] was
[01:16:14] awesome
[01:16:16] but
[01:16:16] yeah
[01:16:16] I
[01:16:33] another
[01:16:33] movie
[01:16:34] with
[01:16:35] Barbara
[01:16:35] Stanwyck
[01:16:35] let
[01:16:36] me
[01:16:36] look
[01:16:36] it
[01:16:36] up
[01:16:37] real
[01:16:37] quick
[01:16:38] because
[01:16:38] it's
[01:16:38] a
[01:16:38] Christmas
[01:16:38] movie
[01:16:39] you
[01:16:40] know
[01:16:40] there's
[01:16:40] a
[01:16:40] Barbara
[01:16:41] Stanwyck
[01:16:41] film
[01:16:42] that
[01:16:42] I
[01:16:42] don't
[01:16:42] know
[01:16:43] which
[01:16:44] one
[01:16:44] I
[01:16:44] just
[01:16:44] remember
[01:16:45] a
[01:16:45] scene
[01:16:45] I
[01:16:46] think
[01:16:46] it's
[01:16:46] Barbara
[01:16:46] Stanwyck
[01:16:47] again
[01:16:48] another
[01:16:48] one
[01:16:48] of
[01:16:48] those
[01:16:48] films
[01:16:48] that
[01:16:49] I
[01:16:49] watched
[01:16:49] with
[01:16:49] my
[01:17:03] I
[01:17:03] could
[01:17:03] be
[01:17:03] making
[01:17:03] this
[01:17:04] up
[01:17:04] but
[01:17:04] I
[01:17:04] feel
[01:17:04] like
[01:17:05] that
[01:17:05] was
[01:17:06] I
[01:17:06] don't
[01:17:07] know
[01:17:07] what
[01:17:07] film
[01:17:07] that
[01:17:07] would
[01:17:07] be
[01:17:07] well
[01:17:08] if
[01:17:08] you
[01:17:08] find
[01:17:08] it
[01:17:08] let
[01:17:09] me
[01:17:09] know
[01:17:09] because
[01:17:09] I'm
[01:17:10] all
[01:17:10] about
[01:17:10] watching
[01:17:11] anything
[01:17:11] with
[01:17:11] Barbara
[01:17:12] Stanwyck
[01:17:12] in it
[01:17:14] well
[01:17:14] you know
[01:17:15] what
[01:17:15] I'm
[01:17:15] just
[01:17:15] gonna
[01:17:15] have
[01:17:15] to
[01:17:15] pull
[01:17:16] up
[01:17:16] her
[01:17:17] her
[01:17:17] film
[01:17:18] filmography
[01:17:18] yeah
[01:17:19] let's
[01:17:19] go for
[01:17:20] it
[01:17:20] let's
[01:17:31] let's
[01:17:31] night
[01:17:33] it
[01:17:33] is
[01:17:33] very
[01:17:34] much
[01:17:34] a
[01:17:34] Christmas
[01:17:34] film
[01:17:34] so
[01:17:35] it's
[01:17:35] seasonal
[01:17:37] he's
[01:17:37] a
[01:17:38] lawyer
[01:17:38] and
[01:17:38] she
[01:17:39] was
[01:17:39] busted
[01:17:39] for
[01:17:39] shoplifting
[01:17:41] and
[01:17:41] they
[01:17:42] were
[01:17:43] gonna
[01:17:43] put
[01:17:43] her
[01:17:43] in
[01:17:43] jail
[01:17:44] over
[01:17:44] the
[01:17:44] holidays
[01:17:44] and
[01:17:45] he's
[01:17:45] like
[01:17:45] don't
[01:17:45] put
[01:17:45] her
[01:17:45] in
[01:17:46] jail
[01:17:46] I'll
[01:17:47] take
[01:17:47] you know
[01:17:48] I'll
[01:17:49] take
[01:17:49] her
[01:17:49] with
[01:17:49] me
[01:17:50] and
[01:17:50] he
[01:17:50] takes
[01:17:51] this
[01:17:52] criminal
[01:17:52] back
[01:17:53] home
[01:17:54] to meet
[01:17:55] his
[01:17:55] mom
[01:17:55] and
[01:17:55] shit
[01:17:56] and
[01:17:56] it's
[01:17:57] just
[01:17:57] like
[01:17:59] I
[01:17:59] really
[01:18:00] like
[01:18:00] they
[01:18:00] really
[01:18:01] like
[01:18:01] had
[01:18:01] super
[01:18:02] good
[01:18:02] chemistry
[01:18:03] together
[01:18:03] so
[01:18:04] there's
[01:18:04] like
[01:18:05] after
[01:18:05] you
[01:18:06] watch
[01:18:06] remember
[01:18:06] the
[01:18:06] night
[01:18:07] like
[01:18:07] there's
[01:18:07] no
[01:18:07] way
[01:18:08] like
[01:18:08] I
[01:18:08] mean
[01:18:09] putting
[01:18:09] them
[01:18:09] together
[01:18:09] in
[01:18:09] double
[01:18:10] indemnity
[01:18:10] is a
[01:18:10] no
[01:18:10] brainer
[01:18:11] like
[01:18:11] it's
[01:18:12] just
[01:18:12] there
[01:18:12] like
[01:18:12] they're
[01:18:13] perfect
[01:18:13] I
[01:18:14] think
[01:18:14] they
[01:18:14] were
[01:18:15] in
[01:18:15] like
[01:18:15] four
[01:18:15] or
[01:18:16] five
[01:18:16] movies
[01:18:16] together
[01:18:18] did
[01:18:18] you
[01:18:18] find
[01:18:19] the
[01:18:19] other
[01:18:19] Stanwyck
[01:18:19] one
[01:18:19] well
[01:18:20] I'm
[01:18:21] looking
[01:18:21] at
[01:18:21] her
[01:18:21] filmography
[01:18:22] right
[01:18:22] now
[01:18:23] she's
[01:18:27] google
[01:18:27] search
[01:18:27] here
[01:18:28] um
[01:18:29] she
[01:18:29] really
[01:18:30] was
[01:18:30] in
[01:18:30] a lot
[01:18:30] holy
[01:18:31] crap
[01:18:32] so
[01:18:33] I
[01:18:33] just
[01:18:33] typed
[01:18:34] Barbara
[01:18:35] Stanwyck
[01:18:35] movie
[01:18:35] with
[01:18:36] painting
[01:18:37] and
[01:18:37] it
[01:18:37] brought
[01:18:38] up
[01:18:38] the
[01:18:39] two
[01:18:39] Mrs.
[01:18:40] Carols
[01:18:41] let me
[01:18:41] look at
[01:18:42] the plot
[01:18:42] here
[01:18:43] what year
[01:18:43] was that
[01:18:43] does it
[01:18:44] say
[01:18:45] 1947
[01:18:46] oh yeah
[01:18:47] okay
[01:18:47] this guy's
[01:18:48] painting his
[01:18:49] wife's
[01:18:49] portrait
[01:18:49] depicting
[01:18:50] her as
[01:18:50] the angel
[01:18:51] of death
[01:18:51] oh
[01:18:51] this has
[01:18:52] got to
[01:18:52] be it
[01:18:52] so
[01:18:53] in
[01:18:53] and
[01:18:54] it
[01:18:54] sounds
[01:18:54] right up
[01:18:55] your alley
[01:18:55] so
[01:18:55] in
[01:18:56] oh
[01:18:56] it
[01:18:56] is
[01:18:56] bogart
[01:18:57] with
[01:18:57] with
[01:18:57] stanwick
[01:18:58] so
[01:18:58] we
[01:18:58] just
[01:18:58] came
[01:18:58] full
[01:18:59] circle
[01:18:59] it
[01:18:59] is
[01:19:00] bogart
[01:19:00] there
[01:19:00] you
[01:19:00] go
[01:19:01] so
[01:19:01] I
[01:19:02] feel
[01:19:02] like
[01:19:02] I
[01:19:02] gotta
[01:19:02] watch
[01:19:02] this
[01:19:03] one
[01:19:03] now
[01:19:03] I
[01:19:03] have
[01:19:03] to
[01:19:04] watch
[01:19:04] this
[01:19:04] one
[01:19:04] hold on
[01:19:05] it
[01:19:06] was
[01:19:06] like
[01:19:06] it
[01:19:21] was
[01:19:26] on
[01:19:26] she
[01:19:27] but
[01:19:27] she
[01:19:28] she's
[01:19:28] dead
[01:19:28] for
[01:19:29] a
[01:19:29] while
[01:19:29] I
[01:19:30] think
[01:19:30] so
[01:19:30] it
[01:19:31] weird
[01:19:31] to
[01:19:31] me
[01:19:31] plus
[01:19:32] she
[01:19:32] was
[01:19:33] like
[01:19:34] 1944
[01:19:35] she's
[01:19:36] older
[01:19:36] than
[01:19:36] my
[01:19:36] mom
[01:19:37] right
[01:19:38] yeah
[01:19:38] so
[01:19:38] it's
[01:19:39] a tad
[01:19:39] odd
[01:19:40] but
[01:19:40] like
[01:19:40] I
[01:19:41] mean
[01:19:41] she's
[01:19:41] good looking
[01:19:42] woman
[01:19:42] what
[01:19:42] can
[01:19:42] you
[01:19:43] do
[01:19:44] um
[01:19:44] all
[01:19:45] right
[01:19:45] we're
[01:19:45] getting
[01:19:45] off
[01:19:45] the
[01:19:45] rails
[01:19:45] here
[01:19:46] and
[01:19:46] we're
[01:19:46] going
[01:19:47] so
[01:19:48] um
[01:19:49] no
[01:19:49] I
[01:19:50] this
[01:19:50] is
[01:19:50] fun
[01:19:50] yeah
[01:19:51] no
[01:19:51] I'm
[01:19:51] excited
[01:19:51] I'm
[01:19:52] going
[01:19:52] down
[01:19:52] memory lane
[01:19:53] I'm
[01:19:53] excited
[01:19:54] I'm
[01:19:54] gonna
[01:19:54] watch
[01:19:54] all
[01:19:54] of
[01:19:55] these
[01:19:55] so
[01:19:55] by
[01:19:55] the
[01:19:55] next
[01:19:56] time
[01:19:56] we
[01:20:13] Mrs.
[01:20:13] Carroll's
[01:20:13] before
[01:20:14] we
[01:20:14] talk
[01:20:14] again
[01:20:14] and
[01:20:14] I
[01:20:15] think
[01:20:15] I
[01:20:15] want
[01:20:15] to
[01:20:15] try
[01:20:15] to
[01:20:15] watch
[01:20:16] the
[01:20:16] invisible
[01:20:16] man
[01:20:16] again
[01:20:17] too
[01:20:18] it's
[01:20:18] not
[01:20:18] streaming
[01:20:19] anywhere
[01:20:19] and
[01:20:19] it
[01:20:43] because
[01:20:44] usually
[01:20:44] like
[01:20:44] when
[01:20:44] I
[01:20:45] get
[01:20:45] home
[01:20:45] like
[01:20:46] I'm
[01:20:46] not
[01:20:46] ready
[01:20:46] to
[01:20:46] edit
[01:20:47] yet
[01:20:47] I
[01:20:47] need
[01:20:47] to
[01:20:47] separate
[01:20:47] myself
[01:20:48] from
[01:20:48] this
[01:20:48] a little
[01:20:48] bit
[01:20:49] you know
[01:20:49] before
[01:20:49] I
[01:20:50] dive
[01:20:50] right
[01:20:50] into
[01:20:51] it
[01:20:51] right
[01:20:52] but
[01:20:53] like
[01:20:53] when
[01:20:54] I
[01:21:13] the
[01:21:14] consolation
[01:21:14] of
[01:21:15] philosophy
[01:21:15] by
[01:21:16] um
[01:21:45] and
[01:21:46] was
[01:21:46] it
[01:21:47] sounds
[01:21:48] like
[01:21:48] wrongfully
[01:21:48] imprisoned
[01:21:49] um
[01:21:50] at the
[01:21:50] time
[01:21:51] and
[01:21:51] was
[01:21:51] you
[01:21:51] know
[01:21:51] a
[01:21:52] prominent
[01:21:52] person
[01:21:52] who
[01:21:52] kind
[01:21:52] of
[01:21:53] lost
[01:21:53] everything
[01:21:53] and
[01:21:54] he
[01:21:55] I
[01:21:55] think
[01:21:55] he
[01:21:55] wrote
[01:21:56] this
[01:21:56] while
[01:21:56] he
[01:21:56] was
[01:21:57] in
[01:21:57] prison
[01:21:57] and
[01:21:58] was
[01:21:58] sort
[01:21:58] of
[01:21:58] his
[01:21:59] um
[01:22:00] spurning
[01:22:01] of
[01:22:02] his
[01:22:02] situation
[01:22:03] his lot
[01:22:04] and
[01:22:04] the
[01:22:04] suffering
[01:22:05] and
[01:22:05] all
[01:22:06] this
[01:22:06] that he
[01:22:06] was
[01:22:07] kind
[01:22:07] of
[01:22:07] going
[01:22:07] through
[01:22:07] at
[01:22:07] the
[01:22:07] time
[01:22:08] and
[01:22:08] the
[01:22:09] book
[01:22:09] was
[01:22:10] supposed
[01:22:10] to
[01:22:10] be
[01:22:10] like
[01:22:10] a
[01:22:10] synchronization
[01:22:11] of
[01:22:11] he
[01:22:13] was
[01:22:14] supposed
[01:22:14] to
[01:22:14] be
[01:22:14] like
[01:22:14] a
[01:22:14] polymath
[01:22:15] like
[01:22:15] this
[01:22:15] you
[01:22:16] know
[01:22:17] it
[01:22:17] was
[01:22:17] knowledgeable
[01:22:18] in
[01:22:18] all
[01:22:18] these
[01:22:18] different
[01:22:18] disciplines
[01:22:19] but
[01:22:19] he
[01:22:21] was
[01:22:21] kind
[01:22:22] of
[01:22:22] compiling
[01:22:23] all
[01:22:23] these
[01:22:23] other
[01:22:24] great
[01:22:24] thinkers
[01:22:25] into
[01:22:26] sort
[01:22:26] of
[01:22:26] like
[01:22:26] one
[01:22:26] sort
[01:22:27] of
[01:22:28] manuscript
[01:22:28] and
[01:22:29] philosophy
[01:22:29] and
[01:22:29] portrayed
[01:22:30] it
[01:22:30] in
[01:22:30] like
[01:22:30] this
[01:22:32] poetry
[01:22:33] slash
[01:22:33] prose
[01:22:34] kind
[01:22:34] of
[01:22:34] format
[01:22:35] and
[01:22:35] the
[01:22:35] book
[01:22:36] itself
[01:22:36] is
[01:22:36] supposed
[01:22:36] to
[01:22:37] be
[01:22:37] like
[01:22:37] a
[01:22:37] landmark
[01:22:38] in
[01:22:39] Western
[01:22:39] literature
[01:22:40] I
[01:22:42] one
[01:22:42] of
[01:22:42] these
[01:22:42] things
[01:22:42] that
[01:22:43] I'm
[01:22:43] like
[01:22:43] well
[01:22:43] I should
[01:22:44] probably
[01:22:44] give that a
[01:22:45] read
[01:22:45] because
[01:22:45] it's
[01:22:45] not
[01:22:45] super
[01:22:46] long
[01:22:46] but
[01:22:47] so
[01:22:47] let
[01:22:47] me
[01:22:47] ask
[01:22:47] you
[01:22:48] this
[01:22:48] I'm
[01:22:48] looking
[01:22:48] at
[01:22:48] the
[01:22:48] Wikipedia
[01:22:49] page
[01:22:49] it
[01:22:50] was
[01:22:50] published
[01:22:50] in
[01:22:51] 524
[01:22:53] which
[01:22:53] is
[01:22:53] fucking
[01:22:54] crazy
[01:22:54] to
[01:22:54] me
[01:22:55] but
[01:22:56] like
[01:22:56] two
[01:22:57] questions
[01:22:58] one
[01:22:58] how
[01:22:59] does
[01:22:59] this
[01:22:59] end
[01:23:00] up
[01:23:00] on
[01:23:00] your
[01:23:00] radar
[01:23:01] and
[01:23:02] then
[01:23:02] two
[01:23:03] we
[01:23:04] can
[01:23:04] do
[01:23:04] this
[01:23:04] one
[01:23:04] at
[01:23:04] time
[01:23:05] how
[01:23:05] does
[01:23:05] this
[01:23:05] end
[01:23:05] up
[01:23:05] on
[01:23:05] your
[01:23:05] radar
[01:23:06] I
[01:23:06] think
[01:23:06] my
[01:23:06] brother
[01:23:07] has
[01:23:07] a
[01:23:07] copy
[01:23:07] that
[01:23:07] he's
[01:23:08] read
[01:23:09] and
[01:23:09] I
[01:23:10] think
[01:23:11] I
[01:23:11] probably
[01:23:11] saw
[01:23:11] it
[01:23:11] mentioned
[01:23:12] somewhere
[01:23:12] else
[01:23:13] also
[01:23:13] but
[01:23:14] I
[01:23:14] think
[01:23:14] I
[01:23:14] saw
[01:23:15] it
[01:23:15] on
[01:23:15] my
[01:23:15] brother's
[01:23:15] bookshelf
[01:23:16] okay
[01:23:17] and
[01:23:18] then
[01:23:18] as far
[01:23:19] as
[01:23:19] just
[01:23:19] like
[01:23:20] like
[01:23:20] it
[01:23:20] is
[01:23:20] short
[01:23:21] it's
[01:23:21] like
[01:23:21] this
[01:23:22] is
[01:23:22] telling
[01:23:22] me
[01:23:22] it's
[01:23:22] like
[01:23:22] 155
[01:23:23] pages
[01:23:25] what's
[01:23:25] the
[01:23:25] language
[01:23:26] like
[01:23:26] is
[01:23:27] it
[01:23:27] hard
[01:23:28] to
[01:23:28] get
[01:23:28] through
[01:23:28] so
[01:23:29] no
[01:23:30] it's
[01:23:30] not
[01:23:30] and I
[01:23:31] was
[01:23:31] worried
[01:23:31] about
[01:23:31] that
[01:23:32] because
[01:23:32] I'm
[01:23:32] assuming
[01:23:32] it
[01:23:33] was
[01:23:33] originally
[01:23:33] written
[01:23:33] in
[01:23:33] Latin
[01:23:34] or
[01:23:34] something
[01:23:34] like
[01:23:34] that
[01:23:35] but
[01:23:35] it's
[01:23:36] been
[01:23:36] translated
[01:23:37] it
[01:23:38] does
[01:23:38] say
[01:23:39] Latin
[01:23:39] on
[01:23:39] Wikipedia
[01:23:40] yeah
[01:23:41] okay
[01:23:41] I mean
[01:23:41] that makes
[01:23:42] sense
[01:23:42] but yeah
[01:23:43] it's
[01:23:43] it's
[01:23:43] been very
[01:23:44] easy
[01:23:44] to read
[01:23:45] so far
[01:23:45] I
[01:23:45] was
[01:23:45] reading
[01:23:46] it
[01:23:46] in
[01:23:46] the
[01:23:48] lounge
[01:23:48] of
[01:23:48] the
[01:23:49] dealership
[01:23:49] while I
[01:23:49] was
[01:23:50] waiting
[01:23:50] on my
[01:23:50] car
[01:23:50] getting
[01:23:51] worked
[01:23:51] on
[01:23:52] the
[01:23:52] other
[01:23:52] day
[01:23:52] and
[01:23:52] it
[01:23:52] wasn't
[01:23:53] hard
[01:23:53] so
[01:23:54] I'm
[01:23:54] like
[01:23:55] you know
[01:23:55] I'm
[01:23:55] not
[01:23:55] that
[01:23:56] far
[01:23:56] into
[01:23:56] it
[01:23:56] yet
[01:23:56] but
[01:23:57] it's
[01:23:57] not
[01:23:57] been
[01:23:57] hard
[01:23:58] interesting
[01:23:59] because
[01:24:00] there's
[01:24:00] just a
[01:24:01] line
[01:24:01] here
[01:24:01] that
[01:24:01] drew
[01:24:02] my
[01:24:02] eye
[01:24:02] on
[01:24:02] the
[01:24:02] Wikipedia
[01:24:03] page
[01:24:03] it says
[01:24:03] in
[01:24:04] 1891
[01:24:04] the academic
[01:24:06] Hugh
[01:24:06] Frazier
[01:24:07] Stewart
[01:24:07] described
[01:24:07] the work
[01:24:08] as by
[01:24:08] far
[01:24:09] the most
[01:24:09] interesting
[01:24:10] example
[01:24:10] of prison
[01:24:11] literature
[01:24:11] the world
[01:24:12] has ever
[01:24:12] seen
[01:24:13] I mean
[01:24:14] that was
[01:24:14] in
[01:24:14] 1891
[01:24:15] so
[01:24:15] but
[01:24:16] still
[01:24:16] like
[01:24:17] wow
[01:24:17] let me
[01:24:18] I'm
[01:24:18] interested
[01:24:19] in this
[01:24:19] I'm
[01:24:20] interested
[01:24:20] to
[01:24:21] see
[01:24:22] what you
[01:24:22] think
[01:24:22] when
[01:24:22] you're
[01:24:23] done
[01:24:23] with
[01:24:23] it
[01:24:23] because
[01:24:23] normally
[01:24:25] I
[01:24:25] don't
[01:24:25] know
[01:24:26] if
[01:24:26] this
[01:24:26] would
[01:24:26] be
[01:24:26] something
[01:24:26] that
[01:24:27] was
[01:24:27] up
[01:24:27] my
[01:24:27] alley
[01:24:27] but
[01:24:27] I
[01:24:28] think
[01:24:28] it
[01:24:28] would
[01:24:29] be
[01:24:29] interesting
[01:24:29] to
[01:24:29] read
[01:24:30] something
[01:24:30] written
[01:24:31] in
[01:24:31] AD
[01:24:33] 523
[01:24:33] well
[01:24:34] have
[01:24:35] you
[01:24:57] school
[01:24:57] it
[01:24:58] was
[01:24:58] like
[01:24:58] one
[01:24:58] page
[01:24:59] was
[01:24:59] the
[01:24:59] original
[01:24:59] prose
[01:25:00] poetry
[01:25:01] or
[01:25:02] whatever
[01:25:02] you
[01:25:02] want
[01:25:02] to
[01:25:02] call
[01:25:02] it
[01:25:03] and
[01:25:03] the
[01:25:03] second
[01:25:04] page
[01:25:04] was
[01:25:04] a
[01:25:04] modern
[01:25:05] translation
[01:25:05] and
[01:25:06] it
[01:25:06] was
[01:25:06] verse
[01:25:07] for
[01:25:07] verse
[01:25:07] so
[01:25:08] you
[01:25:08] could
[01:25:08] read
[01:25:09] in
[01:25:10] the
[01:25:10] original
[01:25:12] and then
[01:25:12] you
[01:25:13] could
[01:25:13] get
[01:25:13] a
[01:25:13] modern
[01:25:14] interpretation
[01:25:14] and
[01:25:15] because
[01:25:15] the
[01:25:15] language
[01:25:16] was
[01:25:16] so
[01:25:16] different
[01:25:16] there
[01:25:17] it
[01:25:18] helped
[01:25:18] you
[01:25:19] understand
[01:25:19] and
[01:25:19] I
[01:25:19] think
[01:25:19] by
[01:25:20] the
[01:25:20] time
[01:25:20] you
[01:25:21] get
[01:25:21] halfway
[01:25:21] through
[01:25:22] the
[01:25:22] book
[01:25:22] you're
[01:25:23] relying
[01:25:23] on
[01:25:24] the
[01:25:24] modern
[01:25:24] translation
[01:25:25] because
[01:25:25] you're
[01:25:25] kind
[01:25:26] of
[01:25:26] into
[01:25:26] the
[01:25:26] flow
[01:25:28] but
[01:25:28] it
[01:25:29] was
[01:25:29] nice
[01:25:29] to
[01:25:29] have
[01:25:29] it
[01:25:29] there
[01:25:29] for
[01:25:30] certain
[01:25:30] things
[01:25:30] especially
[01:25:31] if
[01:25:31] there
[01:25:31] were
[01:25:32] words
[01:25:32] that
[01:25:32] aren't
[01:25:33] necessarily
[01:25:33] commonly
[01:25:34] used
[01:25:34] anymore
[01:25:34] being
[01:25:35] thrown
[01:25:36] out
[01:25:36] there
[01:25:36] right
[01:25:37] right
[01:25:38] yeah
[01:25:38] and this
[01:25:38] one's
[01:25:39] got
[01:25:39] some
[01:25:41] footnotes
[01:25:41] also
[01:25:42] which
[01:25:42] are
[01:25:42] helpful
[01:25:42] for
[01:25:43] references
[01:25:43] to
[01:25:45] either
[01:25:45] other
[01:25:45] literature
[01:25:46] at the
[01:25:46] time
[01:25:47] or
[01:25:48] actual
[01:25:48] people
[01:25:49] who
[01:25:49] lived
[01:25:49] at
[01:25:50] the
[01:25:50] time
[01:25:51] figures
[01:25:52] in
[01:25:52] the
[01:25:52] government
[01:25:52] and stuff
[01:25:52] like
[01:25:53] that
[01:25:53] but
[01:25:53] like I said
[01:25:54] so far
[01:25:55] it's
[01:25:55] not
[01:25:56] been
[01:25:56] too
[01:25:56] hard
[01:25:56] but
[01:25:57] Beowulf
[01:25:58] is
[01:25:58] another
[01:25:58] example
[01:25:58] of
[01:25:59] one
[01:25:59] of
[01:25:59] those
[01:25:59] like
[01:26:00] western
[01:26:00] literature
[01:26:01] type
[01:26:01] things
[01:26:02] that
[01:26:02] like
[01:26:02] you know
[01:26:02] stands
[01:26:03] out
[01:26:03] as
[01:26:03] like
[01:26:03] one
[01:26:24] book
[01:26:24] written
[01:26:24] book
[01:26:25] and I
[01:26:25] don't
[01:26:25] remember
[01:26:26] when
[01:26:26] this was
[01:26:27] written
[01:26:27] but it
[01:26:27] was more
[01:26:28] modern
[01:26:28] called
[01:26:28] Grendel
[01:26:29] and it's from the perspective
[01:26:31] I've not read it but I'm familiar with it
[01:26:32] let me see
[01:26:34] Grendel novel
[01:26:35] the perspective of
[01:26:37] the monster's mother
[01:26:39] yes
[01:26:40] yes
[01:26:40] yeah
[01:26:41] and this was written in 1971
[01:26:43] and I think
[01:26:44] I want to say that I heard that they might be doing a film
[01:26:47] like a new film
[01:26:48] oh
[01:26:49] about this
[01:26:49] so like Beowulf
[01:26:51] came up not too long ago
[01:26:52] so it's interesting that you said that
[01:26:54] because I've kind of been thinking about revisiting that
[01:26:56] yeah I need to get a copy of it
[01:26:58] and I need to get
[01:27:00] I read Grendel in high school shortly after
[01:27:02] I read Beowulf
[01:27:04] but I haven't read either probably since
[01:27:06] so I think they
[01:27:07] yeah I mean it's in the public domain
[01:27:09] you can read it for free online
[01:27:10] but I just
[01:27:11] yeah I like it
[01:27:12] I was gonna get a copy
[01:27:13] yeah
[01:27:14] cool
[01:27:15] so I'm
[01:27:17] like I said earlier
[01:27:18] I'm reading The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
[01:27:20] and then
[01:27:20] I'm gonna jump right into
[01:27:22] freaking
[01:27:23] Riders of the Black Cow
[01:27:25] by Ian Lewis
[01:27:26] yeah I'm curious to get your feedback
[01:27:28] because the only person that I know that's read it is my wife
[01:27:30] okay
[01:27:31] I will say though
[01:27:33] she could not put it down
[01:27:34] and that
[01:27:35] that doesn't normally happen
[01:27:37] like she
[01:27:38] like
[01:27:39] just flew through it in a week
[01:27:41] and like
[01:27:42] you know normally
[01:27:43] it takes her a little bit longer
[01:27:45] so
[01:27:45] with
[01:27:46] with any book
[01:27:46] well
[01:27:47] I don't know about any book
[01:27:49] but
[01:27:49] certainly what I'm writing
[01:27:50] not that she dislikes what I'm doing
[01:27:51] but
[01:27:52] this one she
[01:27:53] like really could not put down
[01:27:55] which is surprising to me
[01:27:57] because I didn't write it in a manner
[01:27:58] where I thought people would
[01:28:00] respond to it that way
[01:28:01] but
[01:28:01] no
[01:28:01] I'm pretty stoked to get to it
[01:28:04] and
[01:28:05] I think that I should be through
[01:28:06] The Time Machine
[01:28:06] within the next couple days
[01:28:07] it's again
[01:28:08] it's a pretty short one
[01:28:09] and I'm probably halfway through it
[01:28:11] yeah
[01:28:12] so yeah
