Episode 66 - Just A Short Break

What's up, everyone? It's just Matt today, with a quick announcement.

[00:00:00] What's up everybody and welcome to episode 66 of the Promptly Written Podcast. I'm Matt Sugerik

[00:00:24] and I'm by myself today. If you remember the Facebook group, you probably already saw this. I posted a statement if you will

[00:00:36] and I'm pretty much just going to read that verbatim so if you read that before it's pretty much going to be the same thing right now

[00:00:43] but I wanted to make sure that I was reaching everybody including those that are not a member of the Facebook group which you should go join if you haven't yet.

[00:00:52] But anyways, if you've been a regular listener of this podcast you know that last year I started teaching photography at my local community college.

[00:01:01] This semester I took on an additional English course which is super fun and exciting I'm having a great time but it's drastically increased my workload.

[00:01:10] When I first decided to do this, Ian asked me if I thought it would be beneficial to take a short hiatus from the show in order to kind of adapt to my new schedule

[00:01:20] and of course I resisted, I was adamant that I'd be able to manage it. You know I love this podcast, I love writing weird sometimes fucked up stories for your enjoyment

[00:01:30] sometimes I do things just to get Ian's reaction which also brings me pure joy but as much as I love it

[00:01:36] I watched helplessly as it fell down my list of priorities as my workload increased.

[00:01:41] As I sit here and record this it's February 1st and I haven't been able to get an episode of Promptly Written out into the world in 2024.

[00:01:49] And this absolutely kills me. I feel terrible especially because I know that Ian has been ready to go since late December.

[00:01:57] I miss seeing your prompt ideas and coming up with stories, I miss talking about pens and watches and all things writing with one of my best friends in the entire world.

[00:02:06] And I'm actually struggling right now because like this is one of the hardest things I've ever had to say.

[00:02:13] But I now see that Ian was right which I should have known.

[00:02:17] He's always been the voice of reason here.

[00:02:20] But right now I need to take a step back and just kind of get used to my new normal.

[00:02:25] It's for that reason and that reason only that I regret to announce to you that Promptly Written will be on a temporary hiatus until the end of this semester.

[00:02:34] I don't want my stories to be an afterthought anymore.

[00:02:37] I don't want to be waiting until the last minute just to crank out something just to save face.

[00:02:43] I want to take the time to do these prompts justice and that's just not time I have right now.

[00:02:49] I want to focus on the word temporary here. This isn't the end. This is just a short break.

[00:02:55] At a long conversation with Ian last night and our intent is to bring the show back in either May or June of 2024

[00:03:01] depending on how this semester pans out. We'll keep you up to date in the Facebook group that's facebook.com slash group slash pwritten pod.

[00:03:08] So do a solid follow it there if you're following already just keep following and we're going to post updates there.

[00:03:14] When we return it's going to be a two story episode delivering what we owe you

[00:03:18] and it's going to be proceeded by what I can only imagine is an intense breakdown of everything that's been going on for the past few months here.

[00:03:25] I appreciate every one of you and I can't wait to talk to you again soon.

[00:03:30] Until then keep reading, keep writing and be kind to one another.

[00:03:36] One last thing before I go, I wanted to let you know we're still working on getting volume five of the book out into the world.

[00:03:41] That's on me obviously it has to do with all of this and I'm going to do my best to finish everything up so that Ian can work his magic on the manuscript and get it done.

[00:03:49] So we'll be sure to post links when it's available to purchase.

[00:03:57] That's all I got for you today. Again I appreciate every single one of you. Thanks for listening

[00:04:03] and we'll talk to you in a couple months.
