[00:00:16] Greetings, Psy. Welcome to the Kotet. A person's never too old for stories. Man and boy, girl
[00:00:27] and woman, we live for them. The buzz of the thinny grows ever louder. The shadow of the
[00:00:39] Crimson King grows ever larger. And the tower, collect your gunna and make ready to go
[00:00:50] then. There are other worlds than these. Hello, constant readers. It's time to plover. I'm Jeff
[00:01:05] And I'm Matt. And this is Other Worlds Than These, a podcast dedicated to the interconnected
[00:01:11] worlds of Stephen King and the Dark Tower. My first exposure for Stephen King actually came
[00:01:17] through Thinner, which I think is interesting because it was a novel he wrote as Richard
[00:01:22] Bachman. I was probably junior highish and that just kind of started a thing. I think I went straight
[00:01:27] from Thinner to like it and then just started reading some of the old horror stuff. And then
[00:01:32] it wasn't until I was working with you, Jeff, where I actually decided to start reading
[00:01:36] The Dark Tower because like I was never into fantasy. It wasn't horror. I didn't want any
[00:01:40] part of it. So I made it all the way up through Wolves of the Kala. I don't even remember
[00:01:45] if I finished it, but I was looking through my Kindle history and that was way back in 2013. So
[00:01:50] I'm almost a newcomer to this series again. So it's going to be interesting.
[00:01:56] So similarly, I was probably in middle school. I started living with my dad and he had basically
[00:02:02] every Stephen King book that had been released up to that point. First, I read Christine. I think
[00:02:07] I saw the movie and was like, that's kind of cool. And then I read the book and then I
[00:02:11] that was the first experience where I realized the book is usually better than the movie and
[00:02:16] started reading the other ones, whatever else I could get my hand on. But the first exposure
[00:02:20] to the fact that this world of The Dark Tower exists happened when I read The Talisman. Although I
[00:02:26] didn't know at the time that this was a book that would be connected to this larger universe.
[00:02:31] That came obviously when he finally finished the series. We saw how big this universe is.
[00:02:36] But after that, I read The Gunslinger and then I was hooked from then on.
[00:02:40] And then here we are now with the entire series out and these obvious connections to so many of
[00:02:47] his books, some absolutely direct connections and some tenuous. But it's a fascinating world
[00:02:54] to explore. And we invite you on this journey. It doesn't matter where you are in your Stephen
[00:02:59] King experience, whether you are someone who is just now deciding to get into this Dark Tower
[00:03:05] experience or you're somebody like Matt who tried and kind of fell away along the way.
[00:03:12] Or you're somebody like me, who this will be my third go through on at least the seven Dark Tower
[00:03:17] books. I cannot wait to go through this with you all. Listeners, we will embark with you on a journey
[00:03:24] through mid-world and beyond as we read together through The Dark Tower series and the other
[00:03:27] King novels that feed that narrative and build that world using a reading list and schedule
[00:03:31] available on our website. That's right, you can find our reading list at www.tocast.com. It'll
[00:03:38] tell you where to start, which passages to read for each episode exactly when we'll branch off into
[00:03:43] other books. And if you follow us on Facebook and Twitter at www.tocast, we can get interactive
[00:03:49] and actually join in the discussion. In each episode, we're going to deep dive
[00:03:53] into the world building and the wider connections to King's other books. So join the
[00:03:58] cut-tip and let's explore other worlds than these.
